I'm a right TV freak when in Blighty.
I watch all the cooking programs favorites The Great British Menu and Jamie's 15 minute meals.
I don't have a TV in Egypt and don't want one.
But tonight is Great Canal Journeys down De Nile:

"Timothy West and Prunella Scales travel down the River Nile from Luxor to Aswan. Tim has some misgivings about attempting such a daring journey, but is won over by Pru's desire for fresh adventure. They discover how travel along the river was vital to the ancient Egyptian civilisation, and discover how the first ever canals were constructed nearby to ferry building materials for the temple at Karnak. Along the way, they visit a Nubian village, purchase aphrodisiacs in a souk, and dance by moonlight.

Should be good...'inshaala!..... 8)

Well the Paralympics are one thing, and all this PC crap is going to far....
On one channel or the other is a weather girl she has no forearm, we instantly change
channel, the poor girl finds it hard to point out sun & clouds and to push the button all at the same time,
political correctness gone mad in our opinion!.... 8)

Interesting, she may not be able to manage the gear and thus not be suitable for the job, but why do you change channels? Are you embarrassed for her or by her?

I think the weather girls/men are a waste of time anyway - bring back Michael Fish! :D

I don't think her lack of forearm affected her ability to conduct the weather report.

Of course it's unusual to see it delivered by someone with an obvious physical disability. A few decades ago it would have been equally unusual to see it delivered by a person of colour and I daresay there are people who, witnessing such an affront to their sensibilities, would have changed channel to see something less visually disturbing.

Choosing someone with a disability over someone, equally qualified but without a disability, is not really " political correctness"

It's "positive discrimination"

Any disabled person will not be able to compete with a fully able bodied one, but that does not mean that they have the chance of a career removed from them just because of their disability. This girl may have been highly qualified in her field of expertise, then became disabled but managed to retain the same profession. Any disabled person deserves the right to earn a living if they so choose against relying on state benefits.

Lucy Martin - the weather girl - was actually born without a right forearm.

She studied for her degree in geography, which included meteorology, and took advantage of the BBC initiative which gives job opportunities to people with disabilities.

I remember with our first born we got a short notice invite from long time friends of my wife to join them at a local restaurant that night so impossible to organize a babysitter, the new sprog was very well behaved usually, but decided that the inside of a noisy restaurant wasn't to his liking, so started to cry, much to the disdain of the other diners. So out came the pap, suck suck, perfect peace and harmony until the manager came over to say due to the complaints would she feed said sprog outside. Its not that anything was exposed as she had purposely taken a scarf with her as a just in case precaution. In those days people were easily offended, but today, no one would give a glance. Like kissing the same gender in the street, a past public order offence, now, no one gives a fig. Its all about moving with the times. What would you rather do if in a restaurant? Sit at a table while a mother partakes in an act that is so natural, or sit next to a table full of ex/still active criminals and gangsters. Objectivity is always a two way thing.

Obviously the latter, there are many natural acts like someone taking a crap, picking their nose,
but one doesn't have to watch.... 8)

Fortunately we now have laws against discrimination against mothers who wish to breastfeed in public....and they also apply to restaurants, bars etc.

There is nothing to stop individuals from exercising their right to eat or drink elsewhere if confronted by such a sight.

Likewise, they are free to be horribly offended by the sight of two men kissing in public......provided they take no action to impede, attack , insult etc.

Generally speaking, bigots have as much, if not more, freedom to display their bigotry than the objects of their disdain have to exercise their rights.

Why should a mum have to use some unhygienic toilet to feed her child? As for changing nappies not exactly the same is it?

Would you eat your dinner in a toilet?

You can't compare taking a crap, changing a nappy or picking your nose to a mother feeding a baby. It is not in anywhere near the same league.

(A couple of ex-pats )
Reading the papers and it seems the Police target Black people more than us Whitey's.
Question: to our Police authority MT, so "Why do the Police target Black people more than White People ?

My answer would be that their % of capturing a 'wrongdoer is greatly enhanced.
So being a Black, Fat, Jewish, Transgender, Midget casually walking the streets of old London Town and getting pulled
by Plod for being a B.F.J.T.M. is or is soon to be greatly enhanced..... 8)
'just a thought!....
