Silly boy. He should have known that Egyptian police/ security staff have no sense of humour.

An expensive lesson learned.

I wouldn't have thought it was a good idea to pat any security officer on the back, or anywhere else, no matter the nationality. They have a tendency to get a little touchy in ways that you'd not like.

I agree.

However, the Egyptian reaction does seem, on the scant evidence available, a tad over the top.

I’m sure they have to deal with mouthy tourists, possibly inebriated, all the time and to bang them up in prison for what appears to be a joke is likely to cause a fuss out of all proportion to the “offence”. Nor is it likely to enhance Egypt’s reputation as a fun holiday resort once the tabloids have had their say.

I can’t imagine this sort of reaction occurring in, say, Gatwick airport.

To every news artical there is a back story and a true story. They tend not to be told, probably because they don't sell well.

Tapping/slapping someone on the back of the neck unless you are their father can mean you want to F**K them :o Maybe this is where he patted him, hence the sexual assault charge

British tourist accused of ‘sexually assaulting’ Egyptian policeman out on bail.

A British tourist detained for the “sexual assault” of a policeman has been granted release on bail of LE20,000 by prosecution in Hurghada on Saturday.

Tony Remo Camoccio, 51, had been arrested at Hurghada International Airport last week after allegedly sexually assaulting a police officer.

Camoccio claims he meant nothing wrong and had only patted the officer’s back during inspection.

The officer took legal action and reported the tourist, with Camoccio then referred to prosecution.

The British Foreign Ministry said that it is contacting the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and Camoccio’s family over this incident.

As if a married man, accompanied by his wife and kids, is likely to sexually assault a policeman in broad daylight, in the airport, surrounded by tourists and security staff.....

Meh!!

A happy ending....

A British man detained in Egypt after reportedly patting a security guard on the back has been released.
Tony Camoccio, 51, feared he would be falsely accused of sexual assault after the incident at Hurghada International Airport on 8 February.

More than 5,000 people had signed a petition supporting Mr Camoccio.
Campaign group Detained in Dubai said he had been released from custody after paying about £1,000 in bail and other costs.

Its chief executive Radha Stirling said the case had been dismissed for lack of evidence.

In a statement Mr Camoccio, from Sutton, south London, said: "I'm very excited to be heading home and can't wait to see all of my family after the past week's events.

"I'm very thankful to everyone for their support."
