I did notice locals covering their mouths or moving away from my approach.
No change there then....

Hi All. just got back on Friday, from Luxor, to start with everything went well. Our accomodation was great, picked up our Luxor pass at Karnack [ amazing place]. Next day [ Sunday] we met up with our driver , Hamdi the helicopter man . an absolutely great guy, nothing a problem for him. over the next three days did all the sights. All I can say is its mindblowing! The only put offs are the constant asking for and giving out money. One character in the Nobles Tombs sight, after walking us around 8 tombs wanted 400 Egyptian pounds. I gave him the money, but when I mentioned to Hamdi the driver, he went nuts. He proceeded to get into a massive shouting match with the guide , the outcome been I got half my money back. Anyway by Tuesday we started to hear the rumours of airports closing down. tried getting in touch with our carrier [Turkish Airlines] that was a total failure , no information at all coming from them. we decided to not take the chance , and went to the Egyptian airlines office. We paid £1150 for flights to Heathrow via Cairo, then £740 for flights from Heathrow to Glasgow. Forgot to say we heard from Turkish airlines on the Wednesday , late afternoon , that had cancelled our flight, with no other suggestions on how to get home. So would not recommend them again. So a magnificent place , with a crap ending. thanks to all .

Marydoll, how did you get on?
I hope you are OK and was able to enjoy some, if not all, of your holiday.
I know there were issues for some people having to rearrange alternative flights and routes home.
Do please let us know how you got on.

Oops! Thanks for your update Marydoll. Sorry, I hadn't seen it when I made my post. Not sure how I missed it.

I'm so glad Hamdy looked after you well - but I would not have expected any less from him.

Hopefully your negative experiences - among the good ones - from your visit, won't put you off going in the future. Put them down to lessons learnt and build on the experience.
