Some good visa news....for once.

Post by Dusak »

My visa runs out tomorrow, so went into the office today to see if I could get an extension, my reasons were it was too dangerous to travel. I know I can stay and not pay any fine due to my age, but I'm not one to want anything for nothing. I suppose you could argue that I could of paid the fine, but I did not know if this was placed in your passport, I thing I did not want, just in case for the future.

Anyway, I was given the form to fill in, I requested six months. I would of been OK with three, it would give me breathing space. I was called over to the counter, the guy pointed out that I had put six months on so I said its OK if I can only have three. He said no, Cairo have told us to give you a one year visa. I had to stop myself from saying how was I expected to know this if I hadn't come in on the off chance I may have missed out. I had to pay 60Le admin costs, the new visa will be ready to pick up in 4/ 5 weeks. Splended news as this gives my a comfortable period to plan my next trip when it's safe to do so. I think he said the cost would be 1,950Le.

I believe the cost is 1,695LE

Yes...they have been more relaxed giving extensions since the onset of the pandemic. A property owning Brit should have no problem in getting one year.

6 months for 1695 LE, WOW!! We got our Cypriot Residents "forever" papers last week the whole operation cost us 40 Euro's for the two of us, now we can apply for a Cyprus Passport, to entitle us for free access to any EU Country after Brexit. We also have applied for an NHS EU pass for free healthcare in any EU Country. I think 1695 LE sounds a lot for 6 months for an Egyptian Visa, it was nothing like that 3.5 years ago for a yearly visa, so what is the problem and why so much?

What is the NHS EU pass that you mention?

He might be talking about the the Cypriot EHIC

A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in another EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland.

Or he might be talking about the U.K. EHIC UK state pensioners living in the EU before the end of 2020 will be able to use their EHIC beyond 2020.

If he doesn’t have a U.K. EHIC, but is drawing his State Pension, he may have applied for a S1 Form which will entitle him to a U.K. EHIC and free NHS treatment in U.K. after 31 December 2020, even though no longer resident in U.K.

The U.K EHIC (E111) does not necessarily provide free health care. There may well be charges, and there are limitations as to the establishments you can use.
Also, a UK issued one may not be valid in Europe for healthcare from 01/01/2021.

My understanding is that it is, provided you left UK prior to 31/12/20 and receive the uk State Pension.

My caution prompted me to use the words 'may not' . :D
I had to read the blurb some while ago but can't remember all the specifics. Perhaps I should have gone back to a reliable source of the information and checked there before, or instead of, posting.

Hepzi all applues to us, the British Consulate hear has contacted all pensioners and advised them to apply for a EHIC. So almost everyone here has done so. When we get our Cyprus Passport, we can either use that or our GESY Registration if thw EHIC does not cover, in any case we will be fully covered because the GEZY (CNHS) will cover us for what the EHIC does not. But we being SI/GEZY Registration first have to offer the EHIC, followed by the EHIC Card. I appreciate the UK will not be in the EU in a couple of months time, and we pensioners have been advised to double up. Hope that clears up the questions asked. It was very hard for me to understand, because GNHS has only been in force here 9 months, so we had to ask many questions. I understand these proceedures only apply to those of us that are receiving a British State Pension, holders of the S1, and Citizens of Cyprus...

Let me help you...

GESY is the comprehensive Cyprus health system. Small charges apply to most services.

Having successfully applied as a U.K. pensioner, MT has a U.K. EHIC which also gives him coverage in Cyprus, the EU and the UK .

Who decides which cover should be applied to medical services required in Cyprus......well....who knows or cares.

Its 1,950 for a 6 month visa, 1,650 for a 1 year visa which is the one I'm receiving.

Well the visit went OK, this time the two copies were very polite and respectfull towards me. I invited them inside as one was attempting to fill in my form on the bonnet of a car. Just standard questions, connected to the new visa regs about to be placed upon us. The one year visa is going to be offered from what I could grasp, to those that owns property here or a business. The way it was explained to me, via my friend that they use as an unofficial interpreter, was that when it ends, it's just renewed, no mention of having to travel out of the country, also giving the holder exit and re entry rights to suit themselves. Sounds good but when I go to collect it I will double check all this and post it, unless anyone has already recieved theirs and know the full facts. My sexuality this time was not a topic of conversation lol.

I hate to p* Ss o your parade Dusak but this was posted in a visa forum by a friend of mine a few days ago :

“ Went back to the Hurghada visa office today after receiving a waiting stamp few weeks back.

I am over 60, British, property owner, been here 17 years - told to fly!”

Maybe because she hadn’t been out of Egypt for so long? Who knows.

But...what can you do other than turn up at renewal time and see what happens. Now that they charge a reasonable amount for a year’s visa, maybe they’re not so anal about making you leave. It’s a daft rule anyway for property owners who’ve passed a security check etc.

Of course this could happen to me, as it did when the new 6 months visa came into force, I was entitled to my second 6 months but given a seven day get out stamp. It would be nice if all went my way, but if it does not, no problem for me, I will just stay here without a Visa and leave when I think it's safe enough to do so. As we all know, this is Egypt and anything, even things set in concrete, can suddenly shoot off in a different direction. I'm not holding my breath.
