Luxor governor announces revival of tourist flow

Post by DJKeefy » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:40 am

Tourist flow in the governorate of Luxor is slowly coming back to normal rates, said Luxor Governor Ezzat Saad during a press conference held on Monday.

There are indicators that prove the crisis on Egypt's tourism industry that Luxor has been witnessing since the January 2011 uprising is coming to an end, added Saad.

The governor announced that while the tourism sector is being revived in Luxor, political and economic stability are of utmost importance to overcome low tourist rates.

The governorate of Luxor in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism are planning to organise an international event to celebrate the completion of the 5th stage of the “Kabash road” renovation project as well as other international events, such as the “Luxor African Film Festival” set for March 2013.

These events will likely boost tourist flows and attract a wide array of international figures and renowned archaeologists, according to Saad.

The governor’s statements follow the Minister of Tourism Hisham Zaazou’s expectations of a likely increase in tourists visiting Egypt by the end of 2012. Zaazou announced on Sunday that he foresees a 20 per cent increase, reaching an average number of almost 11.6 million tourists by the end of year.

Well I wish Id been at that Press Conference because Mr Saad is totally behind the times. If he'd said that a week ago I would have agreed with him. However in the past week, since President Morsi's announcement, we have had a cancellation of 27 room nights at our peak period ie Xmas and New Year. We are a small hotel and were relying on this period to make up for the bad times to a small degree. We have not had a single enquiry even, let alone a booking for the past week, only these cancellations. WAKE UP MR SAAD.

Well, while there seems to be a shortage of tourists in Hotels, I have noticed a very strange thing when watching the boats go by my garden on their way to and from Aswan.

The top deck has lots of people, boat after boat for the last couple of weeks.

Usually - that's in the busy good old days - there was a scattering, we always reckoned that they were busy unpacking or packing. I have never seen so many people out in the sun enjoying their cruise.

Do you think it's because of the weather they have left behind? 8)

Could they perhaps be doing a 7-day cruise, so don't need to pack as they are not getting off, MD?

agree MD the cruise trade seems to be picking up nicely, I really feel sorry for those in the Hotel/Guest house Trade, they are suffering badly, I cannot understand why really there seems to be no explanation. The only thing I can think is that people maybe feel safer on the river in a confined area. However there are plenty of sites now in Europe telling people of the misdemeanors going on in Luxor, along with the Hassle, you only have to look at these sites, and of course Youtube is full of video's from tourists that have been here and been subject to the hassles and the rip off prices some traders are trying to implement.

Its a mystery really, and I think it will also be as Hatusu says the Cairo problems putting people off. Tourism is a fickle industry and can fall and rise according to the temperature and political gauges.

Who would want to be in this industry, myself and wife have had experience of the Tourist Industry and both agree we would hate to have to go back to it.

Soon we will be able to watch them float down the Nile from our loungers + herbal foot baths, hammocks and infinity pool with 'mint juleps in hand and, hopefully from your wonderful garden view..

"Still thinking on ...." Isn't that the point of an infinity pool? When does the thinking actually stop?

Please nag Thomsons to put back Birmingham flights, I know a few people from around the midlands that have not been since they took the flights off. It is very difficult to travel all the way to Manchester in the middle of the night if going from there, even if there is two flights a month for a start it would help. 8)

When they have just embarked and left Luxor they will need to unpack as they will be on the boat for 4/5 days, conversely when they are about to land in Luxor they will be leaving the boat and thus re- packing their cases before they disembark 8)

I think that Thomsons' now have daily flights from Birmingham International Airport direct to Manston Airport the closest to Margate del Sol @ only £5.quid per person. single supplement inc:.........
Luxor vs Margate del Sol.

When they have just embarked and left Luxor they will need to unpack as they will be on the boat for 4/5 days

Then they maybe don't bother to unpack, or prefer to do it later that night to maximise time broiling their bodies into a cancerous mess,

conversely when they are about to land in Luxor they will be leaving the boat and thus re- packing their cases before they disembark 8)[

I was meaning 7 days (starting Aswan) would mean they would stay on and return to Aswan. :)/quote]

This is getting too deep for me, I simply meant that it was unusual to see people on the top deck enjoying the sun when so close to Luxor, especially as it was all the boats in both directions.

Nice to see them anyway. 8)

I saw Tourist Flo in Sindbad's the other day, enjoying a reviving Stella, with her husband Andy!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
