Good Breakfast In Luxor

Post by Zooropa »

As I may well now rent a flat in October when I visit im faced with the issue of a decent breakfast, having previously got that at the hotel.

Where does one go for a good breakfast in the little Britain area?

Secret Garden is in that street, don't know what time it opens though and Dean's Bistro but I think that only opens at 1pm, so not a lot of good there. You can go in the hotels for breakfast I know the Sonesta do breakfast for 75le and you can use the pool.

McDonalds does a good breakfast from 6am and lots of places do Egyptian breakfast from around the sametime.

what constitutes a good breakfast? you can get most of the stuff and cook it yourself easily enough. beef bacon isn't a bad alternative to a few good rashers of the real stuff. Im not overly fond of the cereal choices here, so I bring Weetabix from uk. Tomatoes, eggs, fried bread, beans etc for a fry up can all be bought in the supermarkets.

That's a negative, repeat that's a negative.

I don't cook on holiday!

I don't cook here or when visiting the UK but I thought I might be the minority so was offering an alternative

With all the power cuts (see other thread) you may want to try adjusting your sleeping times so you can get up a bit later, shower ( water and electric permitting) and wander down to the secret garden at 10am

I've rarely found apartments cost effective. Apart from that, unless you really want the kitchen facilities I don't see how they compare favourably to a hotel. Much nicer to have someone do the cooking and washing up and make the bed etc when your on holiday!

If staying in an apartment though and wanting early breakfast you could do much worse than joining a queue of local men at one of the food stalls or sitting at one of the Egyptian cafes and eating local breakfast.

You might be right for a 2 week stay, Hepzibah, but for longer than that an apartment is definately the cheaper option - 2 months this winter, in a lovely modern, clean and central apartment, will cost me less than £500. I'll have every convenience of home, including wi-fi, and the option of cooking or eating out. I could probably stay somewhere really basic like the Gaddes for about the same cost, but not somewhere comparatively comfortable.

Breakfast? I make porridge or eggs, and eat them whilst reading my UK newspaper online!

Yes, I agree that if staying for a reasonable amount of time they can work out cost effective and give you possibly more flexibility.

I realise also that if there are more than one, or a bedroom sharing couple, of you then it can work out cost effective for shorter periods of a week or two.

I agree that a one week stay in an apartment wouldn't usually be the best option cost wise but if it is being used as a 'test' for a longer stay in future then one week is just about long enough to decide if apartments are for you or not.

I'm not really a breakfast person - a pot of tea and a few fags is my usual but if staying in a hotel and I've paid for breakfast then I'll force myself to eat something - also if someone puts a plate of freshly made spag bol in front of me at 6am I'll eat it. :eat :eat
