Direct flights to Luxor?

Post by newcastle »

CAIRO – 24 July 2017: Direct flights from Europe are expected to reach Luxor within few months, in conjunction with the beginning of the winter tourist season, according to governor Mohamed Badr statements Monday.

The flights which are expected to reach Luxor weekly starting From October, will come from countries across Europe, including, France, Spain, Italy and London.

“We signed deals also with several airlines, including the Turkish and Asian ones,” Badr added.

It was the direct flights from London that puzzled me.

I thought Thomson had cancelled...at least up to December.

Mind you, the news has chopped and changed so many times I'm probably confused.

Yes Turkish entering the marking would be major offset against the loss of QATAR recently it will make Luxor one stop away for a majority of the World and much of the UK. If it happens it will be the best news for a longtime, Longtime.

Just looked at Turkish Airlines November and there are no direct flights London/Cairo, never mind Luxor.

I suspect Bombay was thinking of TA flights via Istanbul....although I haven't checked to see if there are any scheduled for later this year.

If there are, it would make a big difference to access from UK as TA fly to Istanbul from several UK airports.

It's a popular route to Hurghada from Europe & UK.

Even if it were to happen all flights would go via IST, therefore they won't be direct. If TK start a flight to LXR then it would need to link into their worldwide network. The timings would be crucial if it were to work.

You better let them know they might have missed those points. :a17:

I am sorry to rain on the parade, but the reason flights stopped was due to low demand. Also when you look in brochures there are very few containing Luxor and Nile Valley. There is still low demand, so it may only be one flight a week, I suppose it's some form of progress though. The problem is can the operators make a flight profitable, and I doubt a non stop flight in the present climate would be profitable

I suppose that those that run airlines are business men/women and not running charitable institutions so no doubt they will have done their sums. If they put on direct flights then they must think that there is a profit to be made.

I understand that completely Carrie, but would the initial report be true? Far too much is reported and never comes to fruition. All we have to do is look at the things put out from Cairo, over 75% are just figments of someone's imagination, either wishing them to be true, complete fantasy, or publications to keep the people living in hope. Personally I would hope and pray one day someone will come up with something with hard proof, instead of saying this that and the other is going to happen in anticipation. Unfortunately it's a trait across the world and more so in third world Countries. Don't forget now there is no independent media reports in Egypt everything is governed by the state including since we left freedom of speech, judging by earlier posts. To me it's a total disgrace.

Major Thom, do you really spend time checking through holiday brochures looking for holidays to Luxor or other Egyptian destinations?

You really cannot be finding enough to fill your time in your new Shangri La !

Surely you should be looking forwards and at brochures for your next destination on your new adventure, not backwards at the place you have fallen out of love with.

You seem to forget there is a whole World outside the UK. Qatar flight was full most days and that was 6 day per week.

Wonder if by direct flights to Luxor they mean NILEAIR at around 60Euros for a round trip. How will Egypt Air respond? Or is Nileair under the Egypt Air banner?

IF :!: Nile Air are offering return flights at 60 euros then I would think they will be inundated with demand. Maybe someone has got their figures wrong.

Think you're right Carrie!
Checking their website I saw they flew to Hurghada as well as Luxor. Checked it out. Yes it is possible to fly to Hurghada from Luxor - with an 8 hr stopover in Cairo. Cost 192 Euros.

Yes checked that too Hatusu since I am off to Hurghada next week thought it might be a viable alternative to the bus or a taxi but not for the time it takes.
There did use to be a train between Luxor/Hurghada pity that still doesn't work.
I remember Michael Palin caught the train from Hurghada to Kharga Oasis one of his "great train journeys".

I'm pretty sure there isn't , and never has been, a train link to Hurghada from anywhere.
