Egyptian Surgeons in Assiut Extract 38 kg Tumour from Woman's Body.
A team of Egyptian surgeons from the Southern Egypt Cancer Institute extracted a cancerous tumour from the stomach of an elderly woman yesterday, according to the official website of Assiut University, of which the institute is a faculty of.
Dr. Mustafa Sharqawi, dean of the institute, announced the success of the operation and explained that the patient had been suffering from severe abdominal pain and chronic constipation over a three-year history, along with the inability to move normally. CT scans and examinations enabled doctors to understand the problem before proceeding with the surgery.
The tumour, which had stemmed out of the right ovary, filled the abdomen and the pelvic area, took three hours worth of surgery to remove. The team of doctors, headed by Ibrahim Abnoul Oyoun (consultant and teacher of surgical oncology at the institute) managed to remove the tumor entirely but they also had to remove her two ovaries as part of the procedure.

Re: Egyptian Surgeons in Assiut Extract 38 kg Tumour from Wo
And if you think that was big, this is the worlds record of a tumour removed from a human.
300 lb tumor in female abdomen
A 300 pound tumor from an unnamed 34-year-old woman’s abdomen was removed via a 6 hour surgery in Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California on October 1991. It was the world’s biggest tumor removed from a human body.
During operation, the woman had to lay on her back because if she lay flat the tumor would crush her abdomen. Doctor had to remove it in one piece because of it being complex. Six hours later, the tumor was successfully remove and later found out that it was benign.
The tumor was a multicystic mass on the right ovary of the woman. The operation was performed by Professor Katherine O’Hanlan of Stanford University Medical Center in California, USA. The tumor had a diameter of 1 meter (3 ft). The patient – who weighed 95 kg (210 lb) after the operation and has made a full recovery – left the operating room on one stretcher and the tumor on another.
