Another bomb attack?

Post by Horus »

It looks like there has been another terrorist incident at Londons Parsons Green Tube station, not a blast as such, but some sort of (maybe failed) device.
The source of this seems to be from a plastic bucket that ignited in some way, it could be innocent, but looks like a failed device, some people injured mainly from fleeing the scene.

Looks to have been confirmed as an attack, PM will chair a COBRA meeting at noon.

I had the misfortune to be on a London tube train in the 1970's when there was a bomb scare. It was very frightening and total chaos. The train had not fully got into a station when it stopped and the doors kept opening and closing. It was impossible to hear any clear information but there was a sound of sirens/alarms in the background. Naturally, most people were doing their best to get off the train and away from the area. I decided I was just as safe sitting on the train as anywhere else. The crush of people trying to get off the train, across the platform and onto escalators terrified me more than a possible bomb!

Thankfully, the scare I was involved in was just that - a scare. I dread to think what would have happened if it had been a real bomb attack.

I really feel for those people caught up in today's attack. Whether you are injured or not these things never really go away from your mind. I was never keen on using the tube before this happened to me, but as I was rarely in London it wasn't an issue. I still don't like using the tube and, although my experience hasn't stopped me using it when I have to, I am always very conscious of what can happen - even more so in this day and age.

People do tend to become victims of fear, as illustrated in this instance.

That's why I dont like to be in large crowds of people, unless they be singing and a dancing ..... :hp

Last month, I missed a dance rehearsal, as the train had stopped inside a tunnel here in Copenhagen. When it finally started moving again and it was too late too panic, it was announced that there had been a bomb threat at the next station.

But isn't that the whole purpose of terrorism, to induce fear into the community?

You are right Horus.
It's your personal response to that fear that makes the difference.

That my dear friend is why I like to fly solo.... :br

But by the very fact that you do not wish to be in a crowded area because you think that others may panic, only displays your own fear of what may happen in a terrorist incident, ergo Terrorists =1, John Landon = 0

Terrorism does not frighten me. It's the divide and conquer of the people that's the problem.

If the people stick together then terrorism looses.

Remember the attitude of people back in the days of the IRA ?

I have witnessed a big change in society since those days, or maybe I am witnessing a change in the reporting of the attitude of people ?

I do feel that people are being manipulated by the media and not thinking for themselves anymore.

It's the herd mentality that concerns me these days.

At this rate, no one will be leaving their homes anymore.
God knows how many more freedoms are going to be allowed to sail down the swanne. :urm:

Maybe the UK tourist industry is in need of a boost. Stay at home people it's too dangerous to travel. :a82: :a82:

In the 21st century, The UK appears to have suffered many more islamist terrorist incidents than USA, despite being a far smaller nation.

Are we a softer target?

Do we harbour more radicalised islamist terrorists?

Is our intelligence apparatus less effective?

Not that the latest incident has been labelled "islamist"....yet :urm:

You can significantly reduce your chances of being killed in a terrorist attack - from 1 in a million to nearly zero - by staying in bed all day.

The increased risk of starving to death, or dying from infected bedsores is, however, difficult to quantify :urm:
