Phone Apps

Post by HEPZIBAH »

Why do phone apps require access to our device's camera(s)?
I think I understand why they need access to Photos/Media Files - I'm assuming it's so that we can see the images an app sends us and so that it can hone in what it thinks we should be seeing (as in the case of an app related to something involving sales). I just can't fathom why it would need to access the camera. Can anyone enlighten me?

Quite a few apps might want access to the camera, lets just use facebook as an example...

Access to Photos/Media Files so you can upload/download/show media files etc.

Access to the Camera, so you can take a new profile picture rather than choose one from your stored images, also to use the camera for live video which you now see many doing on facebook (sending live feeds)

Thanks Keefy. I can follow that for things like FB. The recent update that made me think about it was from Nectar points site and it just didn't make sense.
