Last week in Karnak I enjoyed some dance classes with one of my teachers from Cairo, Mohamed Kazafy from the Mahmoud Reda tradition of folkloric dance theater.
Mohamed had just returned from Greece, where he had worked with one of his troupes:
Wearing the Flag

Re: Wearing the Flag
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! How I miss my dancing!
I have been sick most of this year and not up to going back yet. Wonderful troupe, wonderful tribute!
I have been watching quite a few videos and you tube performances just to feel part of the dancing scene!
(Mind you, T'Other half is secretly glad that my dancing is on hold!, he knows I only do it here in UK for charity and exercise, but he has to restrain me when, in Egypt if I hear a good refrain goin' on!)

They are Greek, that is why a tall girl stands out.HEPZIBAH wrote:So that's how you wear it!

The delightful Asmahan from Argentina, one of my favorite teachers at a party in Cairo, June 2011:
And underneath that costume was this:
I did not like it at first, but since then wearing the flag has become fashion and I have seen worse. She is wonderful!

The accordion player in the bottom photo has a double in Morocco - he is also a musician.

Re: Wearing the Flag
Must be hard if you are British, the Union Jack is so intricate to make into a costume
