Breakfast in Luxor...

The bacon sarni is famously named after John Montagu, the fourth earl of Sandwich. It's said that the earl, busy with a game of cards, ordered his servant to bring him meat held between two pieces of bread, so that he didn't have to stop to eat a proper meal. It's a good story, but the dish probably has a far older history....

Actually the idea of meat in bread is far far older. Part of a loaf (stale normally) used to be hollowed out and filled with meats and vegetables and served, it was called a trencher. (A bit like the modern kibab) You ate the contence first then the bread which had become soft from the juices. This later became the meat serving dish or plate of the same name.
