Pomegranit juice
Bought some pommies today..sorry you in UK 5 le for a kilo....I have had pom juice in the street shops and have tried to make it myself, tried putting the fleshy bits in a blender but the seeds made it very bitter, tried putting it into a sieve and crushing it but not nice, does anyone know how to make it sweet red and clear.

Re: Pomegranit juice
Line the sieve with muslin or similar, squeeze gently or allow to drain overnight. Add sugar to taste.
I can't stand pommegranite, but apparently the best part is the seeds!

Re: Pomegranit juice
Your post got me curious Carrie so I did a search. I didn't find much at all other than for ready made Pomegranate Juice however, I did find one advert that was actually a Pomegranate Press. This was very much like the large, pull down lever, orange presses you can see.
I did learn that there are varieties of Pomegranate that are more bitter than others! That it is an aphrodisiac! I also found this recipe which may be helpful.
Ingredients
150 grams Fruit Pomegranate
Palm Sugar to taste
1 tablespoon Orange juice squeezed
1/2 cup Boiled water,
Ice to taste
Instructions
First clean the pomegranate and then cut into pieces. To get maximum results do not remove the seeds.
Put the ingredients except lime juice into a blender, then blend until smooth.
Serve in a glass, and then give a squeezed lime juice
Your juice is ready to serve.

Nah too messy, I just get Pomegreat. It's great and no messing

I get 2 big bottles for £3 although I do prefer to eat the fruits when in season, there is an almost sensual pleasure in it.

Re: Pomegranit juice
OK but how do you eat them? As a young kid, I was given one during the interminably long TV coverage of the Coronation, and picked the seeds out with a pin - hours of fun!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

Re: Pomegranit juice
There are quite a few health warnings about pomegranate fruit and raw juice. Research states that the juices from pomegranates and grapefruits interfere with an enzyme in the body that is vital to metabolizing many common medications. Also pomegranate juice lowers the blood pressure and people with blood pressure problems are advised not to eat or drink the juice of this fruit. Also people that are asthmatic. The juice can also exacerbate existing allergies connected to pollen. information via LIVESTRONG.com

I eat the berries off Yew tree's when they come out in the winter, but there is not much taste to them.
One day someone saw me eating the berries, came across and said " dont you know those berries are poisonous" ?
I said "No"

Re: Pomegranit juice
Actually BM yew berries are great! Like jelly tots according to Shazzie, just don't eat the black seed! Like most " fruits" ( yew isn't strictly a fruit ) the seeds are poisonous, but flesh is ok.
Yew wine is exceptionally good, as is yew jam and jelly, you really should experiment a bit

Re: Pomegranit juice
Tried Brians suggestion in a sieve with muslin cloth, weighted down on top to squeeze them and great result.

Re: Pomegranit juice
I have a papyrus press given to me by a friend, intentionally it was for making cider but I came up with an easier solution, I think I'll give the pomegranates a go. I thought it was grapefruit essence/ juice that was a 'no-no when taking heart tablets....

Re: Pomegranit juice
I can't imagine a papyrus press being of any use for making cider. My friends in the 3 counties (a major cider-making area) tend to use large, often hydraulic, presses after the apples have passed through a scratter.
The sort of press usually used to press dried flowers is more appropriate for papyrus (just my 25 piasters worth).

Re: Pomegranit juice
Roman time in Egypt, but how to get at the seeds easily (as was queried above by the late lamented Stan)? This is brilliant!

Roman time in Egypt again, but how to get at the seeds without getting any pith, as queried above by the late, lamented Stan? Watch this, the best method I've seen yet, it's brilliant! (Love the phone call in the middle )
I think I'll set up a little demonstration stall on The Corniche, a la the papyrus factories. No charge for looking!
