Bank Misr

Post by carrie »

Well after building the bank for I don't know how long the bank here on the west bank has finally opened.
Opposite the bus station, two ATM machines, both just outside but despite them saying that they issue 8000le a go they only give 2000le. Still great news. We are finally joining the 20th century here on the west. :D

Somehow sticking my card in West Bank ATM fills me with terror :a82:

I’d certainly only try it when the bank was open so I had someone to complain to when my card was eaten!

Me too Newcastle I usually use the ATM's in the banks on the east bank but these ATM's are just by the door to the bank and if used only when the bank is open should be fine although not too keen on Bank Misr.

Press: 0 and "cancel" (red button) and it will spit out your card.

You can always go back and complain when the bank is open.

I admire your faith in Egyptian technology

Many a time the ATM has failed to respond to such key strokes and simply died.

Laugh all you want. It worked for me and a friend who took my advice.
That is why I keep sharing it. Not a matter of faith.

I’m sure it does work.....most of the time.

Just as the ATM will dispense cash and return your card ....most of the time.

It’s the uncertainty we all worry about!

Seriously...the problem is the difficulties caused by the heat and dust and the fact that they don’t maintain the machines as regularly as they might.

This will only work if the machine has not already retained your card (most of the time you get a message to say so) otherwise you have to go into the bank an argue for your card back (normally works) officially they do not have to give you it, supposedly they have to return it to your bank (as if)

Grass, nice plants and cacti..

The restaurant floor below the top deck had at least 60 chinese diners...
On the top deck fresh Nile breeze iced beers and with no bloody cruisers blowing diesel fumes 24/7.

They are certainly getting on with the new landing stages and ferry points.... 8)
Ps: Now I remember why I shop on Saturday's....

I found that the 8000 limit worked when machines were loaded with 200LE notes. They can only count up to 40 notes so will only give 2000LE in 50LE notes. But one can repeat this immediately.

The machine I mostly use is Emirates, near the passport/visa office.

From the ATM's that used to give 5000, you can now officially get 3000. This morning, I got the usual "you have exceeded your daily quota" message, meaning they do not have enough cash, so I tried again and got ten two hundred notes. I can do that a couple of times a day with each card, every time costing me a fee. I never got more than 1500 on West Bank.
