In Cairo using TEData. Skype normally works for me but has been down for the last few weeks. I also saw the comments on line about being blocked which I think is the case. It doesn’t work in the office here either. Last few years in Cairo it has always been blocked on data although I remember using it extensively this way in Luxor years ago.

When in Luxor and Aswan I use Betternet VPN which is free. I use whatsapp video with no problem from my iphone and ipad. I also use Messenger as well. All from Vodafone Egypt using my mifi box which is also sold by Vodafone. The only downside is when I do a speed test I find the speed very low even though it's 4G.

I have no need for a phone simcard as I take out a 60 minute bolt on with EE which is around a tenner. This enables me to call anywhere in the world instead of paying £1.60 a minute.

I hope this helps.

went into the 'WE' office yesterday. They tried their own internet for Skype and told me that it was blocked. They said it was locked probably by a 'higher authirity'!!!
I will be in Turkey tomorrow so will try it there to see if my Tablet will work using Turkey's internet - in the meantime I will use facebook for video chats

And yet Kim and Carrie have no problem.

Sounds like you need to switch to a different “higher authority”.

Hooray. Arrived in Turkey yesterday and Skype worked perfectly on my Android tablet which I had been using in Egypt. The 'higher authority' in Turkey seems to think it is ok to use Skype!!!

I was told here in Cairo that Whatsapp had been closed and that there was a good reason, it had to do with MB, they say.

I'll ask the president, if I see him - we are at the same hotel, security everywhere.

Good luck with that one Bennu. They dont even have the courage to say they have banned it.
You just get a time out error.

At least Turkey admit to banning what they consider to be inappropriate. And say that this is not available in your country. 😎

One day. When they deserve it. Egypt will move in up to the 21st century. When they learn about how to treat people and animals and learn about the damage lies do.

In the meantime they can stick with thier 16 th century idealogy.
