Rahmans.

Post by carrie »

A new supermarket has opened not far from the bridge on the east bank.
I know it's a bit out of the way for most people but certainly worth a visit if your crossing from west to east.
Walk in through a misting of disinfectant, gloves and masks on offer for those who don't have them. All the staff wearing gloves and masks and the place was spotless. Large supermarket, not too big from the outside but goes well back from the road and opens out to a large L shaped space.
Lots of things there for sale that I usually have to visit various supermarkets to buy.
I will definitely be calling in again on my next shopping trip.

I posted a reply which has disappeared! I will try again. Is this another new supermarket Carrie or are you referring to Al Rayah which has been opened for a few months now. It is situated on the ground floor of the new "compound" which is being built. I have been doing my monthly shop there for a while and they have a good stock, especially of items I cannot get in KZ or Ragab. Their fresh meat is very good - steak especially and cut to your requirements. The standard of sanitisation is excellent and the staff are very helpful. It saves me having to into Luxor. I am very impressed and hope they can keep up the high standards which they have set.

Who 2 - the bridge over the Nile.

New compound ? Any more clues ?.... 8)

Ps: Next to The Egyptian Experience then.
Pss: I don't fancy driving all the way to the bridge for a supermarket....

Yes that's it Moonstone, I have passed it quite a few times before on my monthly excursions to the east bank. Don't know what you mean by the new compound, compound for what? Enlightenment please.
Who it is a long way to go but if your crossing the Nile by the bridge its well worth a visit.

who2 - after the bridge turn left, through the checkpoint then left again on to the main road going into Luxor. It's about a five minute drive from there. On the right hand side there are blocks and blocks of new flats being built. Sorry if I confused the issue by calling it a "compound" -it appears to be a gated community and, according to local sources said flats are very expensive. Al Rayah is at ground level in one corner. They have just completed work on a big car park (I had to "walk the plank" to get into the shop before that). Give it a try.

Some Egyptian Experience flat owners are somewhat hopeful that this will mean improved infrastructure in the area.
