visa

Post by Dusak » Thu Jul 16, 2015 12:45 pm

Talking to an expat friend today that has just returned from the UK tells me that she read on the internet that we are going to be stuck with the six month visa again. Had a look but could not find anything. Anyone heard the same?

I was in the Luxor Passport office yesterday and Madam Sabar told me that 12 month temporary visas were no longer being issued. Six months only!

 Here we go again!

Next there will be a rush of 'Well I got my visa without problems'.. 'I had to go to Hurghada to get my 12 month visa' posts again.

Good luck one and all who require new or renewed visa's.

I was at the passport Office again today to pick up my Exit Visa and I saw the Government Notice on the wall which clearly states that a One Year Temporary Visa can be granted for a period UP TO one year! So I suppose the decision rests with the local office.

From what I hear Ruby Slippers, its a tad too late for one or two. Of course, this is probably only rumor, and we do not talk rumor on here do we. ;)

If correct that must be recent. I received a re entry visa 4 weeks ago running up to the expiry of my current tourist visa in October.

It may be of no interest to you, ''I of no need of a visa so F the rest of you,'' but I am interested, as I'm sure others are or will be. Until this forum is renamed the GD forum with its one and only member you should learn to except this.

The problem is that GD does except this. She really needs to accept it!

I'm now waiting for the subject to be raised on Facebook. I'm sure there are going to be some upset or gloating people posting soon.
Well... there's nothing much on the telly and I've got to go back to the library for more books. ;)

Groundhog Day or not, in my opinion it is very important for many people on this site, or those who visit, to keep up to date with what ever important changes take place in Egypt. A number of people I know stay in Upper Egypt for up to six months during the cold winter season in Europe. This can have a serious effect when they come to signing rental agreements, where they are unaware that their visa could be as short as three months, and the fear that it may not be renewed.

I have always been grateful to such people as Bombay here, who is on the 'ground' and shares his information with us, which is more often than not, quite accurate,..........and pleased to say he is no barfly on this site. :wi .

This is a real issue for anyone wishing or intending to stay in Egypt for more than 3 months and it's unfortunate that there seems to be no consistency in the treatment of individuals at each office or between the different offices.

My advice to anyone affected is to have plans B & C and certainly not to assume that they'll be granted a visa of more than 3 months whatever their circumstances.

And why should there be? One TOURIST might plan to stay 12 hours and another 12 months. One might be here to visit the Pyramids and another to blow them up. What part of the fact that it is left up to the discretion of the issuing visa officer how long you get to stay so damn difficult to understand? I mean repeatedly, people just can't seem to get this simple concept through their skulls.

Who said it was difficult to understand? Par for the course in the jumbled bureaucracy of Egypt.

Given your obvious contempt for tourists generally you must be (text removed) at the prospect of the additional hassle they'll face.

Pathetic :stp

Actually, to be fair, it has been par for the course in the UK too, and I dare say many other countries around the world too. Yes, there are guidelines and requirements to be fulfilled but immigration officers do (or certainly had in the case of the UK) a great deal of personal discretion when it comes/came to issuing visas on arrival.
