Mobinil and Vodaphone

Post by HEPZIBAH »

There used to be a Mobinil shop not too far from the (closed?) Isis Hotel, on the other side of the road. Is it still there? If so, does anyone know what the opening/closing hours are please.

Also, where is the nearest Vodaphone shop to the (closed?) Isis Hotel?

Are there any facilities at Luxor Airport for buying credit for either Mobinil or Vodaphone?

There is no Mobinil it's now Orange and the Isis Hotel is open.
I think the shop is still there but I don't know the opening times.
Don't know about the airport.
There is a Vodafone shop and Orange shop bottom of St Joseph street that are open late.

Thanks Bombay. I thought I'd read that the Isis was closed now, so I'm happy to see that it's not.

You can buy credit for Vodafone online at https://www.vodafone.com.eg/ Do it before you leave home!

The online Vodafone method that I suggested seems to be very fussy about which debit or credit cards it allows. You may need to persevere! :mo :mo :mo

Unfortunately:

"This service is available to all MasterCard and Visa credit card holders and is free of charge.

For the time being, the following credit cards are not covered by Vodafone's Direct Debit payment:
•Visa or MasterCard Electron
•All international cards"

So it would appear that my suggestion will not work. :-(

Oh! I see. I thought you meant that it was the Mobinil shop had change to Orange, not the actual brand.

So does Mobinil not exist at all now?

Orange had acquired virtually all of Mobinil by 2015.

Mobinil was officially rebranded as Orange Egypt in March 2016.

Thanks. Did an internet search a little while ago on this.

So... my question now is perhaps... If you have a Mobinil sim that hasn't had credit put on it for a while, can you put the credit on it through Orange and keep the old Mobinil number? (Couldn't see the answer to this on the Orange site so need someone who has practical experience of it.)

"For the time being." :a50:

I gave up using my non Egyptian Visa with Vodafone online years ago.

I had an old Mobinil number - 012 xxxx xxxx

It hasn't changed notwithstanding Mobinil is now Orange. Whereas, formerly, I put credit on via Mobinil, I now do via Orange

But if your SIM hasn't been used for over 3 months it may be dead. You will have to check this with Orange.

It may nevertheless be possible to resurrect a "dead" SIM number. Again, you'll need to contact Orange
