Archaeological sites to be closed

Post by newcastle »

Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities وزارة السياحة والآثار
decides to close all museums and archaeological sites nationwide from 22 to 31 March, as part of state's efforts to contain #coronavirus spread. During this period, all those sites will be disinfected and sterilised.

They’ll have fun sterilising Karnak, Luxor and Hatshepsut temples.....oh...and Valley of the Kings.

Surely there can't be anyone visiting them now anyway!

I saw a video clip last weekend with a middle aged Egyptian man on a balcony filming a small parade of tourists passing by on donkey carts. I wasn't sure who was the biggest ass: the one pulling the carts; the ones riding them; or the man filming on his phone who declared (yup the usual) 'Luxor safe. No Corona here.'
Perhaps he meant no Corona Orange 'pop'! ;-)

Having seen photographs of the sprayers in Cairo, you have to wonder where all the equipment and disinfectant has come from.
There were huge army lorries going around spraying the major roads, teams spraying in buildings...etc.

The photographs are available to see in:

The disinfectant in my street came from a tuk tuk with a tank and a generator on it with just a hosepipe - no sprayer
