Dentist

Post by hatusu »

Does anyone know of a good dentist in Luxor that is operating at the moment? Unfortunately my usual dentist, Dr Farid, is working in Hurghada until further notice.

I've just recently heard from an Egyptian friend that he has been to Dr Ashraf, just off Sharia Mustafa Kamel, near to where Yousef Hassan Street becomes Mustafa Kamel. On the right past the Mosque which is itself a few metres past the Sipes paint shop, also on the right, when travelling up from the Emilio Hotel. The little alley is called Haret Osman. He's usually open from 11 till 3 and then from 7 till 11. I have his phone number if you want it.
Ashraf did a permanent bridge for me a couple of years ago; it's had complimentary comments from my English dentist. I used to also use Dr Farid.

Well Ive found a new dentist – strangely enough, very close to where I live – near the West Bank checkpoint. I had an appt for 6pm but when I got there he cancelled the appt and said he was “too tired”. I was a bit miffed to put it mildly but on consideration, having had 12 yrs experience of how VERY tired Egyptian men can get, I decided I didn’t want a tired man with an electrical drill let loose in my mouth. He’s promised me first appt 12 noon today. I’ll let you know……..

I have never had to see a dentist in Egypt, alhamdulilah, but I still use one in my old neighbourhood in Copenhagen, though it nearly takes me an hour to get there. I used to try to go there as late as possible, until a hairdresser told me that she did not understand why people would get a haircut late afternoon, when the result could be affected by the hairdresser being exhausted after a long day.

Being more concerned about my teeth than my hair, I keep this in mind when booking an appointment with the dentist. I would be grateful for a dentist who is responsible enough to cancel for that reason, especially on a very hot summer day in Upper Egypt.

By the way, now that I am almost fluent in Egyptian English, I know that tired often means ill, sick, very uncomfortable or close to death.

Just got back from the appt - I am very impressed from my first visit and so far would recommend him. The waiting room is clean, spacious and airy, he speaks excellent English, he arrived on time, and most important of all, NO PAIN.( Got to go back next week.)

As long as you're fixed up, that's all that matters really. Keep well,
Edward.

How was the Dentist on the PPE front? I may need to go to the Dentist but obviously need to be quite careful at the moment. Glad that you got it sorted.

He was just wearing the same gear that dentists normally wear, to be honest I didnt really take any notice, but wouldnt know anyway exactly what does conform to current standards.
