I think you will find the cheap entry to the sites for orfe marrage contracts has been stopped.[face=Lucida Console][/face]

Visas and work permits

Post by Crystal Clear » Thu Jan 20, 2011 10:04 am

I would be grateful if you anyone knows if the rules have changed since these posts.

Is it still possible to get the annual multi-entry visa?

Is it fairly straight forward to get a work permit and how long does it take?

Any up to date info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

CC

Annual visa- easy, just go to the passport office in Luxor. (diagonally right on the other side of the street from the Sinesta St. George Hotel.)

Multi re-entry visa- as above (They are two separate visas)

Work permit- you do not get this your employer does.

If it the work visa is so you can start your own business here that is a whole different can of worms and best sorted out at the passport office where they will tell you the current rule and regulations.

I was in the Visa office with a friend last Wednesday. There were four ex pats plus my friend and all complaining that they were only allowed a six month Visa this time. I am wondering is this a general rule throughout Egypt or something Luxor has decided for themselves.

Your friends were lucky to be issued with a 6 month Visa. They could quite easily have been issued with a two week Visa without reason or explination as I was. Even a 6 month Visa can be revoked at any time without notice.

Yesterday I went to renew my visa.
Popped the old copper on the door a fiver, slipped a nice cheap pen to her behind the counter and proceeded to fill out the form letting her fill in my duration. Next to me were a British couple moaning loudly about not getting any change, obviously under the wrong impression that 'my little nazi doesn't understand English.
Why oh why do people moan over what was probably 2 or 3 quid, me ? I said to her 'keep the change, we exchanged smiles I came back at noon and happily got my visa.

Went with a friend last week, Who2, exactly the same thing. Except for the copper on the door who is supposedly saving up for the villa with pool, arabia, dahab before I marry him.
Always found the ladies in there very helpful and they do speak VERY good english.

Would it cause a problem if I renewed my residency visa 1 or 2 days late? It expires on Friday so the office isnt open till Sunday but inconvenient for me to renew it earlier)

Unfortunately hatusu this is viewed as a very serious over site now. First of all you will be publicly humiliated by the fat geezer behind the bullet proof glass then you will be passed on to the 'Madam' to be chastised and be told how much extra work you have given her on this day. Then you will be escorted under armed guard into the fat controllers office, you are frog marched to the front of his desk and given one chance only to explain why you are late with your visa application, (a bit of advice, on no account comment on the plastic flowers on his desk) He will then indicate with a very off hand movement of his wrist towards his underling that to can leave while he deliberates the quandary that your tardiness has produced. He could deiced to fine you heavily and reduce your visa to one week or make you wait for two days in the counter area while continually getting Madam to smile at you while raising her arse off her chair giving you the impression that you are about to receive it then re-planting herself down with a giggle, or, in rare cases, you will be subject to a public flogging. On the other hand you can just walk in and get it.
