second hand

Post by Insidedark »

Hi all, ive just read an old post about second hand goods. They seem to be very popular up here in northern countries, but in Egypt...well you know, in Cairo definitely couldn't get away with it as Cairenes are so about appearances and "what will the people say"(im from cairo before anyone bites my head off). Ive just had a quick thought, maybe we could start something like this in Luxor (as a community thing, not for profit)? Or as an alternative we could start Swaps (i only participated in one)...something of the sort. Forgive me as im just thinking out loud here (or rather thinking and typing)...anyone think this could be something worth trying?

Cairo and Alex both have a Souk el Gomaa, don't they?
The Alex one is great with a load of stalls selling old junk, I've seen everything from toilets to shoes in there and love it we we get to drive through it.
Doesn't Luxor have something similar?

A certain class of people in Cairo wouldn't buy used goods, but why on earth do you think there is such a brisk business in bekia? That stuff is being bought by someone!

Ive been to the Friday market in Cairo a couple of times, as well as the market in wekalet el balah, but what i mean here is something along th elines of big organized "garage sales" or as they say in sweden "loppis". Usually , come spring, and after the spring claning, people pack everything they have no use of anymore and sell it at this big event. Im aware that in europe people usually hoard more "stuf" than maybe in luxor, but i was thinking this could be good, a place to find bargains and you know...one mans thrash is anothers treaure kind of thing. Just a suggestion.
Im not even there...but in my mind im there already.

Just a question, have you ever lived in Luxor?

No Glyphodoctor, i have never lived in Luxor. Have YOU ever had any ideas that you wanted to share and discuss with others? I'd appreciate it if you could perhaps say "well this would/wouldn't work because..." instead of trying to put me down with rhetorical questions and have me read between the lines.

It was a simple straightforward question, not rhetorical. How do I know whether you have lived there or not? You are reading between the lines something that isn't there at all and if that is how you react to questions when people are simply trying to get to know you, then perhaps I don't want to know you at all.

Just a question, have you ever had a test for Aspergers?
