Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak to be ‘released this week'.
Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak to be ‘released this week,’ claims lawyer.
Egyptian judicial authorities on Monday reportedly ordered former President Hosni Mubarak released in one of the remaining corruption cases against him.
Mubarak’s lawyer now says the former leader is due to be released from jail in the next 48 hours, in comments to Reuters news agency.
Farid al-Deeb spoke after judicial authorities ordered Mubarak’s release in one of the corruption cases against him.
The only legal grounds for Mubarak’s continued detention rest on another corruption case which will be cleared up later this week, Deeb said.
"All we have left is a simple administrative procedure that should take no more than 48 hours. He should be freed by the end of the week," Deeb said.
Hundreds of police officers and dozens of armored police vehicles were stationed to ensure security throughout proceedings held at a police academy on the outskirts of Cairo, reported al-Ahram last month.
Mubarak, his interior minister Habib el-Adly and six aides are accused in complicity with the deaths of more than 800 people during the 2011 uprising.
The ex-president and his sons are also facing charges for illegally using funds allocated for expenditure on presidential palaces for their private villas and corruption.
In June, Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment for the killings of 800 people in the unrest but a retrial was ordered in January because of “procedural failings” in the original trials, stated al-Ahram in an article from July this year.

He does seem to be making more comebacks than Frank Sinatra - and no doubt singing 'I did it my way' too!LovelyLadyLux wrote:Am amazed the old guy hung on this long. He seemed near death quite a few times.

I just hope this isn't step #1 to a REAL come back....He definitely did it 'his way' and 'took it ALL to the bank.'

He will walk straight into the Governor of Luxors job. Then at least we will have newly painted curb stones again as they are beginning to look a bit tatty.

I wonder if Hosni was to walk to the podium, so to speak, in Tahrir, open his arms wide as in an embrace saying....my fellow Egyptians .... I wonder how many would accept him back....
The devil you know carries lots of weight especially when you have just ousted the devil you did not know...... would Hosni be accepted back by the people

So not only is democracy and " freedom" on hold, but now we have military rule and a "dictator" freed by the old regime, not only is that not progressive, but that has to be a step backwards?
I think the time is coming for Egyptians to "wake up and smell the sahlab"...........

Re: Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak to be ‘released this week'.
He will be released on parole according to the news, not free to go where he pleases. But the remaining charges were dropped, or he was found not guilty. Even if we all know he was guilty of these remaining charges, the law says he can be released. Should they only operate the law to suite themselves, like he did? Its amusing to note that this country would be a hive of industrial creativity, there would be a lot more people walking the streets that are now dead, the country would be packed to the gunnels with tourists if he was still in office. And of course, he would have a bit more cash in the bank. But watching the ruination of this once proud country, I wish his removal had never happened.jewel wrote:So not only is democracy and " freedom" on hold, but now we have military rule and a "dictator" freed by the old regime, not only is that not progressive, but that has to be a step backwards?

Yes Dusak, I hate to say "I told you so", but "I told you so". In my opinion the single worst thing to happen to Egypt was getting rid of Mubarak, for he knew a thing or three about keeping things stable, suppressing the MB, and he was a figure head for Egypt that will never be replaced. People were much happier in general, and women actually had a voice, tourists were eager and willing to visit, but now as I say I fear that indeed things have been set right back, and may never recover to those halcyon days.

Isn't that what the Germans said about Hitler, oh! a Volkswagen, oh! Motorways, oh! holiday camps ?....Is the grass really greener on the other side ?........
Halcyon days eh?
Halcyon days eh?

And Mussolini made the trains run on time - Hosni never could manage that!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
