Domestic flights prices slashed by 20 percent to boost local tourism .
Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal said prices for domestic flights will be reduced by 20 percent as a bid to encourage local tourism.
On Friday, the minister said the measure spares citizens seasonal price hikes which occur during feasts and peak times, especially to destinations such as Hurghada, Sharm al-Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan.
Kamal added that ticket rates for those destinations would remain the same throughout the year.
The minister added that besides these discounts, EgyptAir continues to offer subsidized flights to Hurghada and Sharm al-Sheikh.
Similar measures will be applied to Upper Egyptian destinations during winter. He urged private flight operators to follow suit.
Sameh al-Hefny, EgyptAir's CEO, said the discounts will begin next week.

'He urged private flight operators to follow suit.'
Errmm...which private flight operators might those be then? They are a visible as the hair on the palm of my hand!
I know the petroleum company used to do flights for paying customers but I've not seen them advertised for a long time - that is not to say they are not running a service though.

Thanks. I did think there was at least one more company but I just could not remember. Mind you my head was full of flights to and from Morocco at the time and had so many tabs open on my computer it was dangerous to check further.Bombay wrote:Smart Aviation I have posted on here about them several times you must have missed them.

Re: Domestic flights prices cut by 20% to boost local touris
Just checked the price of a flight from Luxor to Cairo and then Cairo to Aswan for mid August (a trip that I did early July) and it is now even more expensive - so where is the 20% discount?

Cairo - Luxor in November is cheaper than last time I checked the same time and date. I do not remember exactly how much but I guess that it is before tax. There is no discount on the domestic leg of an international journey, but that makes sense.
Egyptair offers more domestic departures during the day at the lowest price, which I find relieving, so perhaps it is the average price that is lowered.

The only true example of Egyptair lowering anything, is their standards of customer care.
