Solar Eclipse, 2nd August 2027

Post by Brian Yare »

For those concerned at the small eclipse in Egypt today I recommend a total eclipse of the sun in just over 12 years time. Luxor is very close to the centre of the path of totality, and the eclipse will be total for over 6 minutes. This will be a very spectacular event, so book early!

The path of totality also includes Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Esna, Edfu, Silsila and Kom Ombo, with Sohag (and Abydos) being near the maximum totality. I think I should book a spot on the roof at Dendera.

Aswan just misses out, the eclipse being only 99.8% there. Cairo gets 95%.

Tangier, Gibralter, Jeddah and Mecca are also on the path of totality!
