Re: WTF - Cure Hepatitis Virus via carrier pigeon chicks but
This is quite an old "remedy".
http://gulfnews.com/news/mena/palestine ... s-1.331144
In fact its origins go back centuries.
http://nmhs.blogspot.com.eg/2006/07/whe ... clash.html
The fact that it has no scientific credibility doesn't lessen its use by the gullible. Hepatitis can disappear of its own accord...which probably accounts for the cases where people have testified to the efficacy of using pigeons!
If it has hit the social media of late, that's probably a reflection of the fact that, nowadays, internet memes can go viral in a very short space of time...and the more bizarre the better I get all sorts of "miracle" cures appearing daily on my FB newsfeed.
Gullibility is inversely proportional to education, and therein lies the problem with more backward societies like Egypt.
Having said that, over 40% of Americans believe, literally, that God created the world and all that lies therein...about 10,000 years ago. No amount of irrefutable scientific evidence to the contrary dissuades them.
But we should never be too fast to dismiss ancient "cures". Leeches have been used for centuries and only fell by the wayside in the 1930's with the advent of antibiotics. Nowadays, we recognise the scientific attributes of their saliva etc. and they are used in thoroughly proven modern medical treatment.
But squeezing a pigeon to death on your navel? Mmmmm.....maybe not
