Who’d have thought it!! Egypt is the 8th safest country in the world.....ranking above UK and most European countries.

“Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?” and “In the city or area where you live, do you have confidence in the local police force?” were among the four questions asked to residents countries across the world.
Aaaah...so we’re asking the locals.....not visitors.
Gallup’s polling pool excluded the opinions of residents in Matruh, Red Sea, New Valley, North Sinai, and South Sinai as they “represent a small proportion of the population of the country.”
No surprise that Sinai was excluded.
Gallup’s latest report will be well-received in Egypt, which has mounted significant campaigns to increase the perception of safety among foreign travellers.
Tourism continues to be a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy, and recent attempts made by the Ministry of Tourism have been aimed at stressing Egypt’s safety for all visitors.
Which explains why....
Increased check-points in Sinai and outside of the major cities have been implemented, with reinforced army presence in remote areas of the country.
Following small and rare protests in September, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights noted that Egyptian authorities detained 1,915 individuals, including academics, political party leaders and lawyers......I.e. well- known dangerous troublemakers
On the other hand......
The Egyptian government has continuously denied human rights abuses, often slamming reports and critics as “politically motivated”. Well....they would, wouldn’t they.
If you don’t mind living in a police state, where an unguarded remark can land you in prison ...with trial some years off....then Egypt is undoubtedly “safe”.
If you’re a woman, but immune to sexist remarks, domestic abuse and generally being regarded as a member of an inferior class of citizen....then Egypt is “safe”.
If you don’t mind being frisked half a dozen times when leaving the country (but not on entering), negotiating road checks on a daily basis and, if you’re a foreigner, being viewed as source of finance....then Egypt is “safe”.
Egypt is safe!!

Re: Egypt is safe!!
As I said to someone recently asking me whether it was safe in Egypt....
“Well...you can’t get much safer than being in a High Security Prison masquerading as a holiday resort.
Just give the self-service buffets a miss!”

Re: Egypt is safe!!
Medically speaking, I feel safer in Luxor. Yesterday I needed to visit the LMC urgently, and a friend came across with me. She had medical experience and strongly recommended that I go. On entering the centre, after giving my details I saw a GP almost immediately. He arranged for me to have 3 tests done immediately, one being an ECG. After the tests, I was told a specialist would be coming along to check the results of said tests- (they apologised because I would have a 10 minute wait!!) On arriving within the 10 mins the specialist studied the results and then made a diagnosis, and prescribed a change to my current BP tablets, and made an appt for me to come back in a weeks time for a final test. All the above cost me £27 and i was there less than an hour.
In the summer in the UK my sister had a similar problem - she had to wait 3 wks before she could get a GP appt (I received an apology after waiting 10 mins), and then another 4 months waiting for the recommended ECG appt. Which is the 3rd World country when it comes to health care?

Re: Egypt is safe!!
We all have different experiences.
In Nov 2018 I was in Hurghada suffering stomach pains. I went to a doctor who examined me and gave me the usual ‘gippy tummy’ medication. The problem persisted and I went to hospital where I was quickly attended and examined with ultrasound and X-ray. All clear....just prescribed more tummy meds. The overall cost was modest and I was dealt with promptly.
Two weeks later, in London, the problem persisting, I went to Barts where they instantly recognised a perforated duodenum - about to rupture. I was operated on immediately and spent the next 6 months in hospital.
Had I not gone to London, I’d be dead.
It’s sometimes a question of skill rather than time and money.
