Very interesting fact about the 'homing snails' I knew pidgeons did that, but not snails

Talking of having them with a drink, have you noticed how attracted to beer your typical snail seems to be? sink a plastic coffee cup into your garden soil, half fill it with beer or lager, leave it overnight and it will usually be full of drowned, drunken snails by the morning.
