Paintings of Egyptian scenes

For sometime I've thought it would be a good idea if we could build up a collection of paintings of Egyptian scenes. Finally, I'm going to start a thread for this purpose. Please post pictures of paintings, preferably with the name of the artist and any other information, in this thread and we will see if we can build up our own art gallery. (Shame about the blue scarab appearing on them all but there is nothing I can do about that.)

I have posted about this a while back. They are all here, which is possibly where yours came from?

I don't really do facebook, I got mine just by searching art collections. :up
But you have probably kicked this thread into touch as you seem to have them all in there

Facebook is not all bad, if used discriminately. This page is a wonderful collection that constantly grows.

If you click on one you like, you can then click on it's left or right side to see others by the same artist. Typing a topic e.g.. Luxor Temple, will take ages to load them as there are so many.

I am trying to post some of my favourites but have never tried before. After searching for how to, I found this, but it no longer exists: Instructions for uploading here: viewtopic.php?t=9252

I also want to post some of the copies I have painted.

I like this painting and have often looked at it online. I think it is one of a series around the same subjects.

If you study the copy in The OWP you will see in it's detail it is situated outside of a Cairean brothel.
And if any connoisseur of Cairo architecture could place the painting which I am sure still exists would be quite wonderful..... 8)
Ps: JLP liked painting naked ladies in compromising situations..'bleeding artistic sexual preferences..all freaks....

Two paintings by Jean Leon Gerome that anyone who has visited Luxor will recognise.

Luxor Temple - 1835 by Pierron Charles.

But was is that building in the background...right hand side?

Some of these 19th painters did take artistic liberties with their subjects...so maybe it's invention?

I have two prints by Charles Robertson, if you look at the painting by Jean Leon and pretend that you are standing looking to your left from under the arch the carpet is identical in Robertson's painting title says it's a carpet sale in Khan el Khalil.

Do you have any photographs of them Carrie? I've looked to see if I can find them online but so far no success.

This is a famous Charles Robertson picture of "A carpet sale"...although the carpet doesn't look the same to me.

The two Charles Robertson carpet paintings which have been posted are the only two carpet paintings I've managed to find so far too. As they didn't seem to relate to the other one I didn't post them, and is why I asked Carrie if she had photographs of hers. It would be good to see them.
