Can you tell me if it's possible to visit [Site name] without a prior arrangement?
I will be stopping at [Site name] on a cruise in two weeks time and rather than visit the temple there, I would really like to visit [Site name] instead.

To be more specific, a cruise boat will normally only stop for 2 to 3 hours at Edfu. Hierakonpolis is about 30km each way along the "Agricultural" road. Even if you found a taxi driver who knew exactly where to go, you would be hard pushed to get there and back in under 2 hours, so I suggest this idea is a non-starter.

OK, that's what I wanted to know as well, about the time it would take from Edfu.
I am staying in Luxor for a week aferwards, at the beginning of February, so I could actually do it from there instead.
I will join the Friends of Nekhen and see if I can get permission.
Thanks also to Brian, as I have used your info on hieroglyphs from another site!

Re: Hierakonpolis
I just wanted to say thanks to Brian for telling me about his driver to take me to [location removed]. He was really good and I will definitely use him when I need a taxi on the west bank. In fact I have already passed his details to others.
I had a brilliant visit to the dig site and saw 'many wonderous things!'
So thanks again, Brian.

Re: Hierakonpolis
Glad to have been of assistance, and I look forward to hearing more of your trip to Hierakonpolis, and maybe even seeing some pictures.
