Orfi - not the usual question
Ok we all know about the Orfi - it is (well the ones we tend to write about) between an Egyptian man and a non-egyptian woman.
So my question is - can a non-muslim non-egyptian man obtain an Orfi with an Egyptian woman in Egypt? Yes I know the chances of an Egyptian woman (or her family) agreeing to it are very slim but just wondering if it was possible.

Do you have some lucky lady in mind, BB? I think we should be told, just to nip any rumours in the bud you know?

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
I knew that question would come
A friend, with the approval of his father (don't know about the mother) offered his sister to me for marriage and although I declined it just got me wondering if I could get away with an Orfi rather than a full blown marriage.

Don't know about Orfi, but friends tell me I should have an Egyptian wife ... "she'll do your housework for you!"

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
Orfi were never intended for Egyptians to marry foreigners and before the 25th Jan kerfuffle the rules were supposed to have been tightened up to stop this. I would have thought with the new Government and President and what they stem from an Orfi used in this way would most likely be a bit of a hot potato! The advantages of a full marriage between foreign male and Egyptian female are slight, you still have to wait a minimum of 2 years before you can apply for a residents visa and it is only available for 1 year [renewable each year on application] unlike Egyptian male to foreign female marriages which qualify for a 2 or 5 year residency visa for the foreign partner. N.B. applying/qualifying for a visa does not mean you automatically get one on application!

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
Kevin is right there about the original intentions of the orfi, or urfi, marriage; it was more for young Egyptians, and often widows with their own income. And by the way, I've no intention of seeking a wife, orfi or otherwise. I'd rather do the housework myself!

Tony C One if not one should think it would be possible to hire a housekeeper, they are easier to get rid of!

Welcome Back Mirry! Where've you been, when are you coming back to Luxor and read us some more of your new best seller?
Re: Orfi - not the usual question
I wouldnt think so Brian because the family would then be missing out on all the gold you would have to buy her if you married her properly.

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
Ok, I know people will judge etc.. but here goes.
If someone wanted to get an orfi contract (green) and has been told it will cost 4500 L.E...
Utter bull or likely as they dont really issue these contracts anymore?
Honesty will be appreciated but all I ask is no nasty comments.
Thanks!

If the Ofri is 4500 LE, Run as fast as possible in the opposite direction, and don't look back...

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
Wow - if you look at the average salary in Egypt, average rent/groceries and all other costs then you'd actually be getting the total over the top Cadillac Gold Plated Orfi.
I'd take Bullet Magnet's advice and RUN FAST and RUN FAR! Methinks the Intended is rubbing his hands together with glee and going KAAA-CHING!!!

Re: Orfi - not the usual question
If you feel the need to ask such a question, then you really already know the answer and you also know it doesn't really matter what the answer is anyway because if you have your head on straight you will never put yourself in the situation where it will even matter to know.
