Thought it was about time I said hello!

Post by Sunflwer » Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:30 pm

Hi, I found this site a year ago now and have found lots of great information ready for my first trip to luxor in March.

I am going with my mum, brother and 10yr son who is particularly excited as he loves anything to do with Egypt (as do I)!

I can't quite believe that we will be there in just over 8 weeks!

Thanks for the great site and I'll try not to ask too many last minute questions.

Hi, and thanks :D .

I have to say I am feeling a little apprehensive as well as excited. This will be my first trip outside the U.K as an adult, as well as the added worry of taking my son. Fortunately my mum and brother have traveled quite a bit so have been a great help.

Welcome Sunflower :hi2: Hope that you enjoy your holiday, Luxor is not the best venue for entertaining young children, but if he is like most kids, then a pool and sunshine is all he needs. If he is mad keen on Egyptology then that's an added bonus, also remember that Egyptians love children and I am sure they will be nice to him. Apart from the historic sites there are places like the mumification museum, kids usually love the ghoulish bits. The Luxor museun is also full of interesting things to engage a young mind and it also has a couple of mummies on display. If you are not already staying there, go for a day out at the Maritim Jolie Ville hotel on Crocodile (now Kings) island just outside of Luxor. They have a really big pool with all of the kid type things in it, they sell yummy Movenpick ice cream and also have a small Zoo with a crocodile :)

Thanks for the lovely welcome :D

Horus would I just need to get a taxi to the Maritim Jolie Ville hotel and then pay to use the facilities? Thanks.

Welcome Sunflower, feel free to ask any questions you like, we'll help if we can. You would need a taxi to the Jolie Ville, too far to walk along a busy road, (we had our car accident there last week  ) but can't help re paying for pool etc sorry

Welcome to the forum, another nice way to go there is by felucca but do make sure there is some wind on the day you decide to go or you will end up being towed by a motor boat. You can also go to banana Island by felucca which is a slightly shorter trip.

Yes you will need a taxi to get there and yes you will have to pay to use the facilities, but it is not that much. If you take my advice go on a scouting misssion, get a taxi there around LE25, just breeze in through reception as if you own the place, have a look around, have an ice cream by the pool, then on your way out ask at reception what the charges are for a days use of the pool and to use the facilities, also ask about using a room for the day, you may be surprised at the cost. Then after you leave the main reception desk, go to the small desk at the left of the exit door and ask the chap on there to phone you a taxi, he will do so and it will be at the hotel in minutes, just wait outside for it to arrive, then reverse order back to your hotel. ;)
