Two girls one aged 13 and the other 14 (at the time of the offence) have been found guilty of torturing and murdering.
Not long ago two boys killed baby Jamie Bulger.
The girl's posted photos of their dead victim on social media sites and seemed to gloat over what they had done.
All four of the assailants came from dysfunctional families.
Are these kids born with an "evil gene" or are their actions a result of their upbringing?

I read about this yesterday, Carrie, and thought the same as you. I also thought that society is creating monsters but then remembered back to the 50's and 60's, when child murderers also occurred, so maybe some are born evil! :tk

I was working in Chester at the time Jamie Bulger was murdered, the B and B I was staying in was run by the wife of a policeman working on the case. After talking to him, I am surprised the two perpetrators ever got out of prison, they were sadistic and venomous, they certainly knew what they were doing to the young child. Cases like this would and still do appall me.

They have both been sentenced today, life for both, judge recommended at least 15 years. So at least unlike Jamie Bulgers killers they will have to spend some time in an adult prison.

Sadly I believe it is more nurture. Not saying there are not genetic predispositions however the environment they've grown up in and been exposed to has created children killers. Children tend to act out what they've witnessed, experienced and learned and if there is minimal to no intervention to try to ameliorate the lifestyle they're living it continues and moves out of the household into larger society. Most adult killers were typically pretty sadistic with animals and then progressed to people.

Maybe what they see and read on the Internet has some influence on the children of today, it's open and free for all to see, and very hard to stop.

These truly appalling murders (and many other similar ones) seem to happen not in the appalling US nor in Holland but in the UK and maybe Brits should reflect on this rather than blame nature.

Children randomly murdering other children is extremely rare and certainly not restricted to UK.

I'd be more concerned about the mass shooting phenomenon in US....and the widespread use of child soldiers in Africa.

Heaven knows what kind of adults those thousands of traumatized souls will turn into.
