Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
The men were never in where I lived MD, most swanning about doing nothing, at night they were in secret drinking holes or shisha cafe's. My neighbour saw me vacuuming the ceramics outside and asked me to accompany him for a drink in Gezera, I said we would see him in a hour after we had cleaned up, he said leave it to your wife, my wife went ape at him, and in her temper told me to P... Off and join your mate, I did and when I got there more than half the village was there drinking and smoking. I took that to be the average! My wife joined us round about 1 hour later, and got glares from the villagers because she had walked into a mans world. I had to explain that this is the norm in England, because parity between male and female is equal. There was a lot of behind the hand talking. Never did it again.

Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
Especially in villages accommodation is pretty cramped. A lot of people sleep on the benches that are used in the living rooms for the rest of the day, people don't have the luxury of bedrooms, some don't have the luxury of benches.
The Breadwinner usually goes out after eating and a chat with the wife to get out from under her feet. If the truth be told it helps to remove the pressure on the wife more than a chap going out on the lash.
You will find that in those homes where they do have the luxury of bedrooms the men stay at home after work most of the time and enjoy their families.
And get under their wife's feet!

Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
The majority of homes around where we lived were at least 2 floors some 4 and 5 which I always thought were illegal on the WB. Most were taken up by greeting rooms, bedrooms etc. Only found that the mud huts contained few rooms and were cramped, a lot of those had gone and been replaced by brick buildings.
I have to admit though that many locals had sold land to foreigners at high prices and built to replace the mud huts, giving them some luxury, some had decided to build to sell or rent to foreigners and they had come unstuck and were as poor now as they were in the beginning. Like most villages on the WB they made the rules up, and then went ahead regardless.

British woman jailed in Egypt for tramadol possession denied appeal
Laura Plummer to serve three-year sentence for bringing 290 painkillers into country.
A British woman jailed in Egypt for possessing controlled drugs has been refused permission to appeal against her conviction.
Laura Plummer was sentenced to three years in prison for bringing 290 tramadol tablets into the country. She had told the court they were for her partner’s back pain.
Plummer’s lawyer, Mohamed Osman, told the Guardian on Monday: “The court of cassation found there was no mistake in the judgment and refused the appeal.”
Osman declined to say on what grounds he had challenged Plummer’s sentence. He said many factors had gone into the appeal, including the manner in which the initial hearing was handled, but the overall reason was “a long story”.
Plummer was jailed for drug possession by a court in the Red Sea town of Hurghada on 26 December 2017. The 34-year-old retail worker, from Hull, was arrested on arrival at Hurghada airport last October, after a routine scan of her bags revealed that she was carrying a large quantity of the opioid painkiller.
Her family has long maintained she was unaware tramadol is illegal in the country, and that she had brought the pills to give to her partner after he injured his back in a car accident.
Plummer initially faced the more serious charge of drug trafficking, which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, or the death penalty for those convicted in Egypt. Problems with translation initially led the retail worker to mistakenly plead guilty to the charge of trafficking.
“The judgment is now final,” Osman said. “This means three years in jail.” Cases similar to Plummer’s usually required the defendant to serve at least half the sentence, he said, meaning that Plummer would spend at least a further nine months in al-Qanater women’s prison, south of Cairo.
Karl Turner, the Labour MP for the Plummers’ Hull East constituency, said: “I’ve spoken to Laura’s father, Neville Plummer. He informs me that Laura’s mother and sister saw [her] on Sunday, and she was told then that the appeal had not been successful. This is obviously disappointing for Laura and the family.”
An estimated 319,000 British tourists visited Egypt in 2017, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which warns travellers against possession and the trafficking of illegal substances.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said its staff “continue to do all they can to support Laura and her family, and our embassy remains in regular contact with the Egyptian authorities”.

Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
I would think so Newc! Has for going back to Egypt I could see no reason or rhyme why she would want to go back whatsoever, and yes I think the book would be interesting, which will be on her agenda to recoup money lost while she has been in jail. I would think that she will do her very best to push the dark clouds across the desert.
Who knows really what she will do? Maybe a part of her release will be "Off you go but on the condition you do not put pen to paper" Most of all does anyone really care? There was a big outcry when she got imprisoned, but like everything else it is now in the back of peoples memories.

I agree Newcastle she will be deported and never allowed to return. Will there be an investigation in the UK as to how she got hold of all these prescription drugs?

Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
The newsclip I read yesterday quoted her as saying that she wasn't happy about being deported and that she would never set foot in an airport again. Time will tell but I suspect somewhere with more sunshine than out British shores might attract her before too long.
Whether or not she faces an enquiry into how she aquired so many prescription only drugs is yet to be seen. I think she, and anyone else who assisted her in this, should have to answer for it. Unfortunately, it will probably get swept under the rug.

Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
If as the Egyptian authorities said 'she was escorted to the airport and put on the first flight out' how come the press weren't available to take photos of her at the arrivals hall? (presumably she flew to London)
There's hardly a mentione of her in the press at all.

crewmeal, I'm not sure which channel I was watching at teatime but she was certainly on one or more of the news channels then. I don't think she spoke but her sisters did.
It also mentioned that the British Police had looked into the question of her having so many Tramadol, but (can't remember the exact words) they were not pursuing it.

To be honest I doubt if many people in the UK are even interested in her.crewmeal wrote:If as the Egyptian authorities said 'she was escorted to the airport and put on the first flight out' how come the press weren't available to take photos of her at the arrivals hall? Re: Any info on Laura Plummer
She gave a short interview at the Heathrow Arrivals yesterday, complaining about not being able to say goodbye to her husband, so it looks like she still suffers from a bit of immaturity.
It is not even clear she was married to her husband as she calls him, I would imagine if anything it was maybe one of these sex certificate marriages or in other words an attempt to get money from her or her family for his own benefit, ORFI. He has been quiet all the way along. Has for returning I doubt she would get a visa, and as for her husband and indeed his family would they now be interested in an ex jailbird, who may bring disrepute to them.
Her family should now get together and tell her about facts, and banish any thoughts of her returning to Egypt. There are plenty of other lovely Countries she could visit. The other thing guilty or now what the hell would she want to return there for?
I suppose now its just a matter of waiting for her to appear on Morning TV to tell everyone what she had to go through. Cannot wait for that!! (I don't think so)

Well, Well, Well, that didn't take long at all because she is giving an interview on "Good Morning Britain" within the next 2 hours. You can see the finger nail marks on the studio door.
