Hey, long time no speak. Can’t remember the last time I was on here! Hello to anyone and everyone.
I plan on visiting Luxor next year with my little girl but due to Manchester not flying to Luxor anymore I’m going to be flying to Hurghada, staying over one night (as we will get in at 16:25) then travelling down to Luxor the next day through the desert. There will be myself, my then 7 year old and possibly one other adult (if I can convince her to come).
Does anyone know how I can get down to Luxor from Hurghada? My mum and her friend had everything booked through a travel agent but I’m planning my trip myself. So can anyone advise me please
Thanks

Welcome back little_angel_204 - good to see you post again.
There is a bus, and I'm sure others will be able to advise you on that. Alternatively, you could consider booking a transfer in advance through Luxor4tours/Oceanus (which should work out reasonably cost effective, although probably not as cheap as the bus).
Hope this helps for starters.

The bus would be cheaper but I’d prefer to book in advance as I like to know when exactly things are happening. I looked briefly online and the place I looked at were charging £187 (GBP).

What company was that with?
I don't know how much a pre-arranged transfer should cost, but I can't help but think it should be less than that.

You can book on line now with Go Bus, they run twice a day from Hurghada to Luxor. 8.30 am and 2.30pm, the cost about 150le each way. Remember though that you will have to pay for a taxi from your hotel to the Go Bus office and then a taxi from the train station where Go Bus drop you off in Luxor to your hotel, or where you are staying. So the total cost for the three of you will be about 550le.
If you want private transfer email Oceanus, very reliable trustworthy company, cost approx 1500le. They will probably send the mini bus for you pick you up at your hotel and drop you off in Luxor where you want to go.
Either way quite comfortable and safe.
I've done the journey several times, and have always used Oceanus/Petra. Last time was in January this year, and I think it cost around £40, but definitely nothing like the cost you've been quoted.
My personal choice would be to contact Oceanus. I've not done that route but I have arranged travel with them in the past for a similar trip ( Cairo airpot to Alexandria and back) and could not fault them.
Knowing it was all pre-arranged took a lot off stress of my shoulders.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you'll give some feed back.

Just outside the arrivals are loads of taxi drivers, just ask a few how much to Luxor ?
They will soon find you a driver costs about £50 quid. Easy...
She’s staying overnight in Hurghada......but even if she was going direct from airport, picking a random unknown taxi driver is asking for trouble. With a 7 year old in tow.....????
£50-£80 is very reasonable for a licensed and insured driver.....and one from a known professional firm. It’s not a journey to be penny-pinching about.

Hmmm, a 4/5 hour journey across the desert? As a single woman travelling alone, and a very, very experienced world traveller, this is NOT an option I'd take in almost any country you could mention. Certainly not in Egypt, which I've visited countless times.

I am not sure myself, but it may be useful information to 'little-angel' to know if there is still a ban on tourists traveling long distance after day light hours. Remembering also that the vehicle had to arrive at its final destination before dark.

Oceanus have got back to me very quickly, for 2 adults and a child they have quoted me $160 which I think works out at 130 GBP.
I’m actually thinking of saying in Hurghada a coupe of days to do some excursions there! At this rate we will need a holiday to recover from being away

Who2, I know you were only trying to help . With a group of us I would be open more to this idea but especially as it may just be myself and my young child I’d rather have things booked through a reputable company and pay the extra for added safety. X
Yildez, I will be using Oceanus as I feel this is the best option for us. If my mum travels with us (I hope) @denisegr as I’m sure this would make us all feel safer and more comfortable X

Yes, that’s both ways!

With what I have already written on this subject, I think the above is a good idea, and then you can pre book an over night stay at a small Hurgarda hotel when returning from Luxor.
A couple of days stay in Hurgarda will give enough time to book your outward and return bus tickets to Luxor. I've done the journey myself, and as Carrie points out its quite safe, rather than the usual crazy taxi driver, who's speed is rather frightening, with a break neck attitude.
I know your supposed to leave Hurghada before sunset to travel to Luxor but does anyone know if there are the same restrictions about travel to Hurghada, I am travelling soon and want to arrive about...
