The Queen

Thought it was a great speech given by HM, whether it will do any good I don't know.

Agreed. At 93 she's doing really well and thank goodness many still look up to her. She's a true inspiration.

For some time, I had been a little surprised that we hadn't heard from her, expecting her to make a speech to the nation. I was equally, or more surprised that there hadn't been people baying for her to address the nation. Then, Prince Charles was confirmed as having Covid-19, so I thought she was probably waiting to see how things developed with him.

You don't need to have listened to many of the Queen's speeches over the years to be fairly sure you knew what she was going to say. In deed, there was fairly little she could say in many ways. Nevertheless, she did not disappoint. She said what many people expected to hear; what many people wanted to hear; what many people needed to hear.

I listened to some feedback from people this morning, and as always the Queen seems to have encourage and moved many people - young and old alike. She is like a wise granny that we all look to in times of trouble and difficulty. She can't do much about the situation but she can stand by our side (even at a more than 2m distance). For some people, that is all that is needed.

I should add, it was good to see her looking so well. I have thought on the last few occasions we have seen her that she really was showing her age and frailty. It would seem that isolating in Windsor, and spending time with her husband, has done her good.

At times like this you need a Head of State who can rally the nation and, without fostering complacency, ensure us that - as in previous crises - we will get through it.

It doesn’t really matter whether you approve of a hereditary head of state without power or an elected head of state, with or without power. What matters is having someone to set the tone and draw the nation together.

HM Queen Elizabeth II did this rather well.

Contrast the waffling, changeable, semi-incoherent clown the Americans have to rely on.

For anyone that missed it, or would like to be reminded of what the Queen said, here is a link to it.

It was a good speech and I particularly like the ending, leaving key points of encouragement in an inclusive manner:
'We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.'

Simona a Transylvanian Romanian started to weep during Mrs Queen's speech.
I asked Why ? she said "because it moved her...she's never listened to a Queen's speech before.
Then ensued a long conversation how it's taken her 10 years to learn our British humour.
Yeh, She thinks!
Her walking around in french knickers me saying "is that cell u like ?
Her giving me her "My eyes can kill look! she gets that from her Mum.

Anyhow we listened to her twice and bet the security outside her door had electronic
eyes on the lone cameraman, their guns drawn..
We both agree, that Charles is doing well as well, and that it's the longest apprenticeship ever....
And she's talks to her plants as well, 'lost in translation, to them and me...

I added "it's normally time to get the Turkey out, when She's on't telly.... 8)
