Chili-chocolate cheesecake

Post by Geraldine »

Hey, here is the recipe for chili-chocolate cheesecake I promised earlier. This is really delicious although it might seem a bit odd to some of you  Chili chocolate is reasonably new hit here even though mixing chili with chocolate is not a new invention.

crust:
~350 g cookies (Digestive)
50 g butter

filling:

200 g dark chocolate (I sometimes use ½ dark and ½ milk chocolate and I even put more chocolate than 200g)
200 g cream cheese (I guess mascarpone cheese will do fine too)
1 ¼ dl sugar
2-3 teaspoons vanilla sugar
2 eggs (2 egg yolks and 2 egg whites)
2 dl cream

3 leaf gelatines
1-2 tablespoons water
1-2 slices of chili (I use â€

Go and buy a chili chocolate bar first, then you'll have an idea how it's like :) Hot chili cacao is also a good drink on cold evenings! :P

We have a chili chocolate bar by Fazer and it's available almost in every decent grocery store. But I've noticed many fair trade shops and similar have chili chocolate too. I googled and found this - this one doesn't seem to have a store but I think there must be stores which sell chili chocolate because it's fairly easy to find it in Finland too.

[face=Comic Sans MS]jojo - I don't think Thornton's do a Chilli Chocolate yet. If you have a Montezuma chocolate shop near you I think they do. You may be lucky in an Oxfam shop or somewhere else that stocks Fair Trade products.[/face]

Interesting recipe Geraldine - sounds like something Heston Blumenthal would do :)

Jojo - I've never tried chilli chocolate either, but if you've got a Hotel Chocolat near you they sell it too :)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...

[face=Comic Sans MS]I'd forgotten Hotel Chocolate. A bit over priced for it's quality I feel but nevertheless I have had some chilli chocolate of theirs and it was very nice.

If you have ever been to Cadbury World on of the tasters they used to give you, and I assume still do, is a small glass of bitter chocolate which you had to guess what the ingredients were - chilli was in that. :) [/face]

jojo, my sister was going through a book on weight loss just last weekend while I was sitting next to her and it said eating spicy food helps losing weight a bit - not much but still  So I guess chili chocolate could help

[face=Comic Sans MS]Don't you dare. :x
If you are doing well you should treat yourself but not with a 'poison' - think of the cost of the toffee and then save that amount of money to some new make up/nice undies/something special when you reach or are nearer your goal.

(I know - I have all the right ideas - why oh why don't I listen to myself sometimes and act on them. :( )[/face]
