Post your ice tea recipes

Post by warda »

I do not like fizzy drinks and would be nice to drink something cold and refreshing when it's getting hot here. I tried to make ice tea once but it was really bad. Don't know what went wrong
Share your good recipes, please :)

Well, here in the southern USA, there is SWEET tea and regular tea. To make both, you start with boiling water and tea bags (sorry but that's all we have here). Boil water, pour over tea bags in some kind of heat proof container. For SWEET TEA, you add sugar (granulated sugar) to the tea while it is still hot. You slowly add the sugar while constantly stirring the tea. This causes the sugar to melt while blending and the molecules of the sugar to bind with those of the tea. Causing a very mellow, sweet drink with no bitter aftertaste. Non sweet tea is refrigerated and is drunk as is by those who like it. Or you can add sugar to it but the sugar will not blend as well.

That's funny because I just made a jug last night :)

Get a glass jug or pitcher and drop in 3 flavoured tea bags. I made peach yesterday. Fill up with a litre and half of cold water and 1/2 cup of sugar, and a few slices of lemon no need to stir, then put in the fridge overnight. Then in the morning remove the teabags. The sugar will have disappeared and Voila. Iced sweet peach tea.

I have to say thought hibiscus/kerkedeh is my favourite :P

I make green tea and mint ones, cinnamon and orange, camomile, and caraway too.

PRchick, I was counting on you because I remebered you are a southern belle:)

Ebikatsu, I think I'll try those flavoured teas like you suggested. I also like karkadeh but it's so difficult to get off from clothes. I'm always leaking when I drink and kids are not any better
