I love the pansies! They are wonderful. Pansies here when you buy them in the stores come in all sorts of new 'designer' colours but my favs are the oldie goldie varieties. Such cute wee faces!

They're very good shots Kiya. I love taking photos of flowers but sometimes the colours (particularly the reds IMO) don't always come out as vibrant or true. Very beautiful Kiya! (what are the fuzzy purple ones? I don't know them)

I occasionally post pictures in the monthly competitions on The Digital Site. Next months topic is 'In the kitchen'

I played around with a couple of shots and might use this one. It needs to be viewed full screen, I have titled it "Close Encounters (of the third kind)"

Do you think they will get it? :)

WOOO HOOO - that flower is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Dahlia??? I'm only guessing as I really do not have a clue.....just it IS beautiful!

I just stuck my amaryllis into the veggie crisper of the fridge so I can 'hopefully' get some colour from them in a few more months....

On another note - your shot is really crisp and clear Kiya and all the details of the flower really superb. This is a photo I'd love to hang in a picture frame!

Been out playing with the macro again as my first Star Gazer lily bloomed today. Had a little bit of trouble as the light was fading and it was windy so had to play around with the aperture and the speed. I was using macro on 35 mm [which is my widest wide angle] and the first picture is as taken and as close I could get [with being able to focus]. This was then cropped to show more detail. I then added a 4x magnifier for the fly and then added a 2x magnifier [to give 8x] for the close up - then cropped twice to show details.

Grandad - following on from Sunday's post I hadn't realised I had the magnifiers - about 5 years ago I was given a box of filters and other stuff and only realised last night that some could be used with my camera.

Oh wow! wow! wow! BB these are great! I'll have to invest in a magnifier if this is the results you have, does the magnifier fix to your lens???

Yes Kiya they just screw on - you do have to make sure you get the right size though [as in screw size] - you can get some good sets on e-bay

Hi Kiya

ISO 100, f11. 1/50s so I was lucky not to get too much blurring from movement. Just found another setting on the camera for when using a magnifier - not sure what it does so will have to try it out over the weekend.

Thanks Kiya but I don't know what I'm doing - only just moved off Auto and took tips off here. I only know what settings were used as the camera records this when shooting in RAW

Here's another close up of the hover fly - think you can see the hairs behind it's head.

Kiya - getting back to your little purple flowers they are Ageratum houstonianum (Flossflower, Bluemink) - only know as found the lable in the garden today. Now to your problem with your red rose - have a look to see if you have 'colour effects' on your camera menu - 'warm' makes objects redder or so the book says. There are other things you can try - change the white balance or if you have a saturation setting High will makes the colours more vivid whilst low makes them more natural.

If I get time tomorrow I might try these out for myself as I have some white, deep red and red geraniums and I'll see what difference the various settings make.

Wow! I leave you guys alone for a few days and you all start posting some great pictures.
LLL’s duck pictures are great …………

As is Grandad’s picture of what looks like a ‘Leather’ Carp and his Alien photo is a must for winning the photo competition he has entered.

Kiya is still on a roll and taking better pictures all the time, by the way the purple flower looks like a Seraphina to me.

And ………. Brian’s close ups are great, especially the Lilies.

BB your close ups are TERRIFIC! Great going! Love the lilies too. Getting lilies for the garden is on my 'to do' list for next year.

I'm quite curious too to see how you fare with the REDS. I have the same issues as Kiya. What I 'see' isn't always what comes out (I think) but maybe it is also 'my eye' (not sure). I don't seem to have the same differences with greens, blues, browns and on and on - most just the deep reds.

I've got to get those magnifiers as well. They're just such super shots. Guess that is one of the things I'm finding fascinating about photography - it seems endless!!!.......THEN you can get into editing! AND the BONUS is we have the great Grand Master H! Love those photos you turn out H!

(NOW if I can just get my photos to print on L4U! ;) )

Reds - I've taken 8 photos using different settings - I didn't combine any setting ie if I changed the white balance from auto to outdoor I didn't change the warmth - just too many combinations. None of the 8 pictures replicate the various reds to true. I've played around in photoshop and although I've managed to get one of the reds to be true the white then goes off. I'm going to download the pictures onto a usb stick and then view them on the tv just in case it's the computer monitor, I might also print them out. I'll post the results later but so than you can see what I've been working with here is the first photo taken on full automatic (I even found my red crocs to use as a vase)
