Hobbies....Killing Flies

Post by Who2 »

There are about 17 quadrillion flies in the World.
So sometime ago I started to research killing them, somedays I can flatten 3O in half an hour.
There are many flytraps available but they are also easy to make.
On my last visit I invested in a Red Top Fly Trap. www.redtopflycatcher.co.uk
It didn't work well until I'd added some dried yeast, now it's great.
If everyone 6.97 billion humans killed flies each day there might be less flying around, so if some clever-**** can do the arithmatic how many flies does each human have to kill daily......8)
I bet our friendly [Word Censor] censors clever --- sounds like mick.

The trap is working so well, I have caught hundreds, I think it's attracting them, not good.
Tip: So, make sure you place your trap away from where you hang out..........8)

Interesting, I wondered where all our flies had gone this afternoon. Now the horses and donkeys don't know what to do with their tails

The main trick with minimising fly nuisance is to eradicate any sources that attract them eg food, any rotting or organic matter, rubbish etc
It's only 15% of the fly population that is in the air flying round, the 85% are Unhatched!

They breed in filth and refuse of animals and humans, and transmit many dangerous viruses and disease-causing bacteria. In fact, world health officials have often called the common house fly the most dangerous insect on earth!
I find that basil plants in pots are a really effective deterrent....... :)

Nature has always maintained a balance among its species' populations by means of natural enemies, distribution of food supplies, natural disaster, etc. Imbalances are generally temporary unless natural mechanisms are interrupted by the activities of man. By artificially congregating large numbers of animals in one area, or by planting too many acres of a particular crop, allowing refuse to build up etc we allow the build-up of huge numbers of pest insects that thrive in these conditions.
I don't have a plan......so nothing can go wrong!

This is 3 days later, it's working disgustingly well, had to move it 2Oft away.
It seems dead flies 'za-toon' are a good fertilizer and dead flies attract live flies....8)

Fact #: Each female can lay up to 1000 eggs in her short lifetime. The egg hatches within 24-30 hours, half of which will be female. After another 3-5 days the adult emerges. Within three days this adult fly will repeat the whole cycle again. If conditions are right, a fly population can explode very rapidly. Flies also can survive the winter in all stages of development. In fact, flies continue to develop during winter, although at a much slower rate............8)
