Lectures Start Sunday 18th Dec

What is the topic tonight, and who is speaking? I know that it was mentioned right at the end last week, but I did not catch a word of it. Would a notice or a poster at the MM be too much to expect? The notice of Francesco Tiradritti's lecture on Dec 18 2011 was still the only evidence I've seen of an advertisement for these lectures. Or don't they want hoi polloi to know about them?

Tonights lecture is by Suzanne Onstine and it is on TT16, The tomb of Panehsy.

The notices are put up by the SCA or MM management so try addressing them.

Thank you for the information, unfortunately not received until after the lecture. Had I known in advance I might have had some pertinent questions, but considering the state of Suzanne's throat I would not have expected a long answer.

It was, however, fortunate that I carry my laptop with me. Without it the talk would not have been illustrated.

No idea what next week's talk is about, but by then I'll be back in blighty!

Thought last nights lecture was good but spoiled for me by a man at the side of me actually making a phone call during it and the inevitable mobile ringing. Why cant people manage without their mobiles just for one hour?????

Taking a phone call during a lecture. Outrageous. Why can't some people be more considerate to others. It shows complete ignorance. Let's hope he doesn't attend any future lectures.

He didn't receive a phone call he made one when I gave him a LOOK he moved but went and stood by the door inside the lecture theatre.

According to Mansour next weeks lecture is Donald Ryan but I don't have a title, he apologises for the lack of SCA personal last week, he was abroad but had delegated it

Not sure here Jane but, if it is Dr Ryan, it will be probably be to do with 'the lesser known tombs in the King's Valley', as he likes to call them, great guy, who is a approachable, and always gives a great lecture.

I know Dr Ryan quite well, and suspect he is about the same age as you. Funny I am in the States during the Summer, I hope to see him, and I shall ask him about his recent,...................... and past finds.

He's definitely older than me. Probably by 14 years or so? I do recall he found some rope once! Not lucky in archaeology...

I got another phone call from Ibrahim this evening saying next week is Dr Omar about west bank dewatering so now I am totally confused. However it does look like we have a lecturer (or two) so next week will go ahead. I think we will wait and see which of the two it will be.

PS I agree Don is a very amusing lecturer

Yes you are right Glyph, he is rather famous for his climbing ability, but not so much now 1) He is, as you say getting on a bit. 2) For the past four years every time he picked up a rope on the WB, the goons followed him every where.

I think its best we say no more on this subject, but yes, I do get the drift of your rope story here. Gosh, those WB hills.

P.S. - Jane kindly informs us that Dr Omar will be giving a lecture soon,. As I will not be there, I wondered if some one would put the question, as to whether he is aware of the effects of very gradual expansion, and rapid contraction of land surface. Could he also explain the huge NEW cracks that are now present in Habou Temple.

I don't think you are getting what I am saying at all. He found a piece of rope in KV60 if I recall correctly. No Howard Carter luck for him. It has nothing to do with rock climbing.

Tell me more about the cracks in MH and I will get some people on the case immediately.

I was there a few weeks ago, and didn't see them - whereabouts are they? As the subsoil dries out, I would think that it would contract a little, but probably not enough to damage the building.

I believe we are visiting MH tomorrow with friends. We will have a look for new cracks now we are aware.
