New discoveries at Abydos

Post by Kevininabydos »

Here is an article about the new discoveries made in the very short dig season last summer in Abydos. The actual location in the article is very ambiguous but there were two dig sites that year, one very close to Kom el Sultan [the site of the earliest known temple dedicated to Wepwawet dating to the 1st dyn. and the 30th dyn walled town and temple complex] and the second dig was nearer Omm Qaab [the site of the 1st and 2nd dyn royal burials nearer the mountains which was the main focus of the Osiris cult] and of the two I would say the discovery was made at the first dig as a new guard hut was placed there.

Not been too well of late, still not 100% but getting there. Hopefully I will post a bit, if there is anything worth posting that is!

Thank you to everyone for their pm's and messages.

A fab link and some real gems have been found this season. Fingers crossed they will find suspected large tomb from where the Animal mummies belong. Very interesting that it seems the Shabtis were made by Children.

An interesting article. I find this site facinating and I am sure it would be one of the most fruitfull excavating areas anywhere in Egypt. I visited the arrea about three years ago and I remember seeing jars full of animal mummies just lying on the sand inside a temple complex.
