A unique double coffin for two half brothers, Petamun and Penhorpabik.
This coffin is unique from ancient Egypt as it was held two occupants, both children. On the lid, two identical figures have been carved out in a funerary pose, holding the crook and flail (rod) of the god Osiris. Inside, the coffin base are two figures painted, depicted as the sky-goddess Nut.
The mummies of the boys were prepared with the utmost care and elaborately wrapped, indicating high status in their society. It is not known why the boys died so young but we know from papyrus left with the mummies, that they had the same father but different mothers. The boys' death highlight a sad aspect of the ancient world where young children were very likely to die. Tragedies such as disease devastating a whole family were all too frequent.

In some parts of the world, nothing much appears to have changed!
Even more fascinating is the piece about the Qurna Queen's burial on the link on the right of this piece - http://www.nms.ac.uk/highlights/objects ... urial.aspx I have to admit I'd never heard of this before - even though I knew of Shabako!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
Stan
Kevin, looks like one mummy is intact and the other unwrapped? Well, this might be another reason to goto Scotland then...

BM..check out "massacre of Glencoe"where King Edwards's army raped and massacred the mighty high clan of MacDonald. Not sure how to set up link, but google "corries"and you'll get my drift! The English raped our women, tried to breed us out!All immaterial now, they didn't succeed! As for your wife,it was the MacDonalds who were set up!She is breed of Scots who should hold her head high.!Kind Regards.
It wasn't the English wot did it at Glencoe = it was the Campbell clan massacring the Macdonald clan - a Scot v Scot conflict if ever there was one. And it happened during the reign of William of Orange!
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

Thank you Stan.I stand corrected! It was indeed King "Billy" who signed the order for the Campbell clan to slaughter the mighty clan MacDonald after enjoying their hospitality. There is beautiful song by Scots folk duo "The Corries"which commemorates this black period in Scottish history.Very poignant and a personal favourite of mine!Kind Regards.
