The armed forces on Saturday started distributing bags of food for the needy at Belqas Sporting Club in Daqahlia Governorate, just ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Thousands flocked to the club, waiting for military vehicles loaded with the bags. The military distributes the food with coupons annually for the poor.
The bags contain margarine, lentils, sugar, rice and fuul. Ramadan will start on 20 July this year.
Some people fainted because of the crowds and high temperatures.
