I wondered if anyone had read any of these books, which are on the reading list for a short course I am on.
Manon Lescaut by Abbé Prévost
Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street and Benito Cereno by Herman Melville
“The Metamorphosis” and “A Country Doctor” by Franz Kafka
Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse
William Faulkner’s Light in August
Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges
The Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas
Toni Morrison’s Beloved
Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee.
Some chunky reading there, am currently part way through Tony Morrisons Beloved.
Why do you say that Hafiz? I am part way through "the ice palace" a very underestimated book, and quite primitive in its look at relationships ( the two girls Siss and Unn) I imagine were it not written primarily in Norwegian would be far more widely acclaimed.
Next is Toni Morrisons "Beloved" nowhere near Borges yet........mmm
I have just started reading 'The Marsh Arabs' by Wilfred Thesiger and am finding it interesting. I have been trying to find a copy of his 'Arabian Sands' but I think I will probably have to put a reservation in at my local library. It doesn't seem to be available as an e-book yet.
I am attending a Chickasaw wedding in the Spring in Luxor! It is sad that a lot of the culture has disappeared but it is promising to hear about what Chickasaw stewardship is working to accomplish....

Have you thought about reminding them of one of the Chickasaw legends such as Ababinili and the Humans and relating it to the couple?
