Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Just in time for the low season, or to catch those who like to escape the Summer Heat with hiked prices.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Well most of us including Egyptair it seems realised a while back there was not going to be any high season.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
I'm not too sure of pilot's working hours, but I wonder if the Transavia model would work? They flew to Hurghada, then to Luxor, plane turned around, picked up passengers in Luxor, flew to Hurghada for returning visitors, then back to France or wherever. That way, the best of both worlds for airline (more bums on seats) and visitors to Luxor, who would stay on the plane at Hurghada.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Actually I think I heard the minister of tourism a week or two ago predicting tourism would pick up in March. However, he also said to expect it to go down before the end of the year. In the end, none of this is predictable at this point.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
But it's not really rocket science to predict that tourism will pick up in March, certainly European tourists anyway. Most people would have booked their winter - Christmas/NewYear holiday months ago so even though the travel advisories have been changing it's not likely to make a huge difference to winter numbers. Yes, there are those who'd already booked and were going back to Luxor come what may but that number is still very small. Easter will be the next time that Europeans have a holiday period and that is late April in 2014. People who were considering Egypt and are now free to travel are more likely to rush for March - June before it gets too hot again and then, under normal circumstances numbers will drop back again anyway until probably September/October.

it is what you do with what happens to you.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
A tour company in the U.K. called S.A.G.A. have been using them for years, because when Egyptair have no seats available, I contact a certain person at their London office which is now at Olympia and he always releases me a seat from that company, which are a cheaper 'class' grade ticket price, rather than 'D' class.
To my knowledge all S.A.G.A. tourists to Luxor go on cruises only. Further to this I have learnt that a number of small companies in the U.K. are already advertising cruise holidays from Luxor, and these will simply charter a plane as part of the whole packages, a little like the old days before Thomson.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Unfortunately its not a little like the old days the cost of fuel has made it much more costly and there are much much less people wanting to come here.
If there were crowds at the door Thomson would be up and running a full programme and all the UK companies would not have dropped Luxor before June except TUI and easyJet.
Thomson had already stopped selling any seats to 3rd parties for this winter before the Travel Advisory.
Even the National carrier cannot fill 100 seats out of 144 on a 738 to keep operating a service direct and thats including selling to several tour companies like Viking.
Currently the first Charter flight arrives from Gatwick on 5th March its a Thomson flight, any other talk is just wishfull thinking as I said at the start of the post, unfortunately.
Monarch Airlines has announced its Winter 2014/2015 flying programme from Manchester Airport and no Luxor for them only Hurghada and Sharm same for Gatwick.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Thomas Cook should be coming out with their 2014-2015 brochure this month. If Monarch isn't including Luxor, I bet Thomas Cook won't either, especially considering they would have had to put together the brochure over the last few weeks or months. I'm going to sound like A4 here, but I said a few months ago that we should not expect tourism to pick up until at least the 2015-2016 season because these schedules are published so far in advance.

Thomson is on their site and First Choice I assume its in the brochures. Thomas Cook UK closed their office here at the end of last winter season in May 2013.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Iv'e just had a great idea!….
Why don't we All turn up to meet the first landing at Luxor, 'sort of surprise them all with garlands of flowers and TV news crews.
Mind you, most would probably turn around and high tale it elsewhere….
"Pssst!…….
PS: One suggestion at tonights meeting was to do a sound & light at Medinat Habu, personally the idea of a lap dancing club holds more veracity.
The best and most ludicrous idea was a solar powered cable car to the VoK, 'what drugs are these people on ? I need some.

Re: EGYPTAIR Direct Flights
Just to keep you up to date on the tourism situation here in Luxor, While most people are busy with the Committee. Over 100 Australians checked into Sonesta, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, followed by 80 German tourist, both groups arrived in time for dinner and then drinks in the lounge bar. Both groups have now left the hotel today to continue there holiday by cruise boat to Asswan.
I track their progress during their three day stay here in Luxor, and will add further information at a later stage. I wonder did any one else notice these groups.
.
P.S. - I see that the old Etap has been sold on again, and given yet another new name.
