A Nurse's Reply.

Post by Scottishtourist »

This was published today in a Scottish Sunday newspaper.Hope I'm not breaking any copywrite laws by sharing it..but it kinda sums up the NHS today, and hopefully will educate those who knock it!

What do we see,you ask, what do we see?
Yes we are thinking when looking at thee!
We may seem hard when we worry and fuss,
But there's many of you,and too few of us.
We would like far more time to sit by you and talk,
To bathe you,to feed you,and help you to walk,
To hear of your lives and the things you have done;
Your childhood,your husband,your daughter,your son.
But time is against us,there's too much to do-
Patients too many and nurses too few.
We grieve when we see you so sad and alone,
With nobody near you,no friends of your own.
We feel all your pain, and know of your fear,
That nobody cares now your end is so near.

But nurses are people with feelings as well,
And when we're together you'll often hear tell,
Of the dearest old gran in the very end bed,
And the lovely old dad and the things that he said.
We speak with compassion and love, and feel sad,
When we think of your lives and the joy that you've had.
When the time has arrived for you to depart,
You leave behind an ache in our heart.
When you sleep the long sleep,no more worry or care.
There are other sick people, and we must be there.
So please understand if we hurry and fuss-
There are many of you,and too few of us.

Good one Scottish Tourist! Our voices are lost. They are drowned out by the politics, goverment breaching times, the so-many weeks waiting lists, the money making and money saving ventures that the powers that be try out, the head lines that always go for the negative slant, never the positive side.....the list goes on and on.............But the one constant that in our NHS is the staff. the staff on the ground I mean, from the nurses right down to the man who sweeps the ciggie butts from the hidden niches that people escape to ! With out us you just Ain't got a hospital!
Long live us dedicated ones...the ones with the human touch. WE ARE THERE...thank your lucky stars for us, one day it might be you that reaches for a hand to hold while your life hangs in the balance and offers you that small comfort.

Copywrite laws. An interesting concept. Are you claiming the copyright on them?

ALL Front Line workers need to be commended (and rarely are). The Big Wigs tend to take the glory when it is there and rapidly as in 'speed of light' point fingers - usually at the Front Line - when things go wrong.

Nurses are some of the most dedicated workers I've ever known.

Great poem ST!

Your quite correct Who2 in your analogy, my first wife was a nurse, a right little bitch, but psychotic with it.
Life is your's to do with as you wish- do not let other's try to control it for you. Count Dusak- 1345.

copyright laws defeat the purpose of your Human existence, and truth be known, Nurses are Angels...
They are not in it for the money, its a vocation, but back in the early days, many were forced into prostitution to pay their way to help their fellow man, and buy supplies required to patch up the poor fools who went to war not knowing why..

Florence Nightingale and Betsi Cadwallader, her Welsh counterpart. Worth looking into.

Not going all David Icke here, but the Reptilian Brain centre can provide some comfort, but best to be conquered by the host in the long run... :wi

Words from the wise...
There's a time for everyone, if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn.
