Maybe the women should try this tactic?
(I love the indignity of the workmen who said she shouldn't talk to them like that.....I wonder how many times they have wolf whistled or catcalled someone)

GD has many a time indicated her dislike towards the expats here, be it a minor dig or a full blown beheading. Especially the British ones. Perhaps her grate grandfather x whatever had a todo with us Brits in the Colonial wars. Who knows, who cares.Dusak wrote:
Sexual harassment here? Happens all over the world in every country on every continent, even the Amazonian jungle. The unwanted situation has been looked at, commented on and attempted to be stamped out. With no success. The only protection you have is your own awareness and common sense. But not even that saves many as we all at times are capable of wondering into a false sense of security. India started their new laws yesterday with sentencing to death the three animals that gang raped the foreigner. Will it stop future attack? No. And to add insult to injury the new 'death law on conviction' only takes affect if more than one attacker is responsible. So now its OK to become the lone hunter.
I really don't think, nor do I except, that any female expat here would deliberately tell lies to get an Egyptian man into trouble on a whim.[/quote]
Well, well well Dusak.Your last sentence is really quite discriminatory!
Are you suggesting that a "tourist"WOULD tell lies?
I seem to remember posting on here a while back that I had a bit of bother with a caleche man who thought it was ok to put his arm round me.I objected quite strongly to his actions and was rewarded with an aggresive "**** ***!"
Was this harrassment?Yes!
He had NO right touching me!
Other Egyptian men in the street made apologies for him. He's "uneducated, ignorant"etc, etc.
Did you?NO.You flippantly and rather unpleasantly suggested that he was merely "ushering"me out of Luxor! And this was his way of giving me a "helping"hand.Very distasteful I thought..but your "witty"rant raised a titter from some other posters and ex-pats.
That was very upsetting.
So...what do YOU do if you see a "tourist"being subjected to behaviour she is not comfortable with?No matter how "harmless" or "affectionate"you perceive it to be?
Walk on by?Cos we don't live there and ain't known to you?

Add to that the fact that we all know there are probably some vindictive expats who, if they weren't happy about the price they were asked to paid for a glass of juice, would have no qualms going to the police and accuse the juice man of harassment.

Just who is discriminatory?Scottishtourist wrote:

Bennu. You are a regular contributor on the forum.
You would have to be blind not to see that some here consider "tourists"inferior to ex-pats.
Where do they get that notion from?
Why is Who2 always "slagging off"tourists? Are HIS friends somewhat different from others? Is he?Are you?
You may go there for longer periods than me..but do you have a different visa or whatever?
It's been stated here that many live there on renewed "tourist"visas. They bemoan the fact they can't get permanent ones!
So..they're really no different to me!
Dusak's opinion was that I should've "accepted"this behaviour as somewhat normal and dare I say it "acceptable"...because I'm a "tourist."(and a Scottish one!)
Legs akimbo? In words of Billy Connolly "I don't bloody think so!"
We're renowned for being "tight"
Sorry to disillusion all in Luxor...but that don't just refer to our wallets or purses!
Go figure!

I don't think Dusak is being discriminatory ST, Glyph suggested that some ex pats would through vindictiveness report an Egyptian to the police for something he /she had not done. I don't know any ex pats here who would behave in such an appalling manner, neither can I imagine a tourist doing so either.
I'm sorry that you feel that your complaint about being "helped" from the caleche was treated with disdain, I don't remember seeing such a post and can assure you that I would have understood what you meant. Recently a waiter in a local eaterie put his hand on my shoulder, it made me feel most uncomfortable but the man I was with pooh poohed it, the next time he did it though he really got the edge of my tongue. I can promise you that he will never touch me again. Sometimes things sound petty when you tell someone about them but if they make you feel uncomfortable then it is unacceptable behaviour.
Especially here no one has the right to touch me or any other woman they are not related to ex pat or tourists.

And Glyphdoctor and you seem to feel superior to expats. You are quoting from Dusak's response to Glyphdoctor that has nothing to do with tourists.Scottishtourist wrote:Bennu. You are a regular contributor on the forum.

ST, if you suddenly think that ''Ah, Dusak's dropped a proverbial here I can have a jab at him'' You have to first read what is written, study the subject matter in particular, then you see if it fits the bill. I was commenting on expats, not tourists. As to your assumption that I would '' do a Burt Bacharach'' if I witnessed any one, not just female in distress, then you are wrong.
Life is your's to do with as you wish- do not let other's try to control it for you. Count Dusak- 1345.

How can anyone be tried and convicted in Egypt, I assume of a criminal offense, without the accuser being obliged to give evidence in court and being cross examined.
A story to make you feel 'sad' for the harassers.
Lamu, Kenya beach boys with a tradition of having sex with white women. Large number of Dutch and German middle aged women all a bit desperate and running away from something or someone.
Two Australian nurses arrive do all the beach boy (18 to 20 years old) organized boating, exploring, reef snorkeling meanwhile their beach boy positively slavering at what is to come.
Beachboy escorts them to their hotel room and forces his way into the room. Nurses tell him to leave and make jokes about his physical and anatomical inadequacies. Beach boy leaves in a rage and returns later pleading to stay so that his prestige amongst the other beach boys will not be compromised. Beachboy spends night on floor and occasional beaten with a stick if he makes a move. Beachboy leaves room next morning observed by others yawning and smiling.
