The "Hairy Biker"in Egypt

Post by Scottishtourist »

Watching this at the mo.

In first 20mins of programme,Dave Myers has done MORE to promote tourism to Egypt than any fancy upmarket cruise offer or posed photo!

Can't wait to see the day when tourists like HIM visit Egypt, eat with local families, interact with ordinary Egyptians..and present it all in an "easy to understand"manner.

High end tour operators offering upmarket deals to keep out the "riff-raff..take note!!

Maybe you don't understand that us "riff-raff package tourists"enjoy these kinda programmes and experiences.

Have to agree. That was very much my thoughts.

It brought back some nostalgic sadness but left me with a broad grin on my face.

I also couldn't help but compare his Eid Kabir experiences with my own - I was in Morocco for the Eid last year and spent it very much the same way, with a Moroccan family, sacrificing the sheep and preparing and eating the offal.

I watched this program rather reluctantly, being that there was nothing more interesting on other channels,as usual, I thought it would be the blank and quite reserved expressions upon the faces of the Egyptian people, especially the women, where it is well known they are rather shy at the idea of being filmed.

I certainly am no cook, but I have to say, that this Dave Myers is a natural, it is evident that throughout he made all the people in the homes he visited relaxed, almost as though he was one of the family, none of the usual foolery that occurs when a camera is placed in front of any group of people, which often occurs under such conditions in Egypt.

Myers showed us Egyptian people in a light that so many of us know so well, that most tourists don't see. He balanced the program by adding a number of visits to the ancient sites, and in most, relevant to his program.
