Cairo was hit by two blasts late Monday evening following a deadly explosion earlier in downtown, as the city sees a spike in bomb attacks over the past few days.
At 9:30pm, a sound bomb detonated outside Al-Nozha police station in Cairo’s upper middle class neighbourhood of Heliopolis, the interior ministry said.
No casualties were reported.
Later that evening, the ministry announced another explosion caused by an improvised explosive device in Al-Maadi district, destroying two cars.
Security sources told Al-Ahram Arabic news website that bombs were planted beneath cars owned by policemen of Zahraa Al-Maadi police station.
No casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, another bomb was found and defused on Street 90, a vital route in the upper-class Fifth Settlement suburb, east of Cairo.
Earlier on Monday two people were killed - both civilians - and nine injured when a bomb exploded outside the High Court complex in downtown Cairo.
*** Five small bombs destroy private cars in Cairo's Matariya ***
Five improvised bombs exploded early Tuesday in Cairo’s Matariya district, hours after the city was hit by two small bombs overnight.
No casualties were reported following the blasts in the working-class district in northern Cairo.
However, ten private cars and seven shop facades were damaged on Matariya's main street.
Matariya has been the scene of weekly confrontations between supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and police for months.
Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported that initial police investigations have concluded that unknown assailants planted the bombs beneath private cars in the area.
The bombs reportedly contained a total of five kilograms of explosive material.
Egypt has recently seen a spike in bombings in civilian areas after months of Islamist militants focusing on targetting police and army personnel and facilities.
Five bombs went off also in different parts of greater Cairo last Thursday killing one civilian and injuring at least nine people.

Yes, that was in the Luxor news the same day. I was surprised that no one posted or commented on it.carrie wrote:Had an email from the Embassy to say there was a bomb in Aswan, one killed and 2 injured. !st March

I picked up the information on al Ahram live on Sunday but did not post it here. No need to alarm the Luxorites. The blast was outside a police station at a checkpoint on the "Farmers' Road" near Kom Ombo so far as I can discover.carrie wrote:Had an email from the Embassy to say there was a bomb in Aswan, one killed and 2 injured. !st March
